I was born in New York City in 1884. My uncle was President of the USA. In 1935, I began writing a column "My day" which addressed women's concerns. I was a driving force behind the USA's adoption of the Universal Declaration of human Rights. I changed the idea of what it meant to be a first lady.

I am an ex-slave. Through my excellent hair & beauty products, I became the first female African-American millionaire. My products included "Wonderful Hair Grower", "Glossine", "Temple Grower", and "Tettersalve".

I was the first woman in space. I also married a man who went into space. Doctors spent a lot of time watching my pregnancy & son to watch for signs of any type of space-illness. After my flight into space, I traveled the world promoting equality of the sexes.

I was likened to Pablo Picasso. My dance style incorporated Greek theater, psychoanalysis, and Native American ritual among others.

I served as legislative secretary of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. My efforts in Montana resulted in women winning the right to vote in 1914, six years before all women could vote in the USA. In 1916, I became the first woman to hold national office, US Representative. As a pacifist, I also voted against both World War I and World War II.
