US 70 like to parallel with I-40, from Asheville to Raleigh. But when it is not hanging around I-40, it is a major highway in its own right. Connecting important towns in the east like New Bern, Havelock, and Goldsboro.
A couple of suggestion for NCDOT on US 70 is to, one, fix its route in the triad. It shouldn't be lumped together with the other highways, it just creates a funnel of more traffic on those already busy roads. Second, expand US 70 to 4-lanes from Raleigh to Greensboro, it would help with the growing traffic and serve as a good alternate route when I-40/I-85 becomes to much to handle.
