American Music
(the Violent Femmes Mailing List)
is a MODERATED email list,
which is posted to about 500 subscribers worldwide
at least once a week
(or more frequently depending upon the volume of posts received).
It was originated by Neil Fahey (from Australia, no longer a subscriber) on
or about January 13, 1996.
It was then called ROCK!!!!!
James Schrader took over the list early in June, 1996.
I (Pat. Wary) took over from him on July 15, 1997.
In March 2002, the continuance of American Music was very much in question. A
combination of extreme lack of new Violent Femmes News (resulting in a strong rumor of a
breakup), little subscriber input and their seeming disinterest in any new topics, and new
demands upon my time reduced posting of issues to once every..couple of months or so?
So I appealed to another person, who remains anonymous to almost everyone, to take
over this list which I loved so well and so long. Happily, this person welcomed the opportunity
to accept this non-paying job with wide open arms.
And so, another Era begins; The Era of the Anonymous Moderator. Long may it reign!
