Halloween Text Effects
The download file contains the following file...
Groovygh.ttf
Download and unzip to your Windows>Font folder.
Open PSP
Open a new file
Width: 400
Height: 200
Black background
Click the Text tool
and click in the center of the pic and select a font. I picked the font
that is attached, GroovyGhosties, Bold, Size 48, check Antialias. Do not
check Floating. Click on your background color box and select Black.
Click on your foreground color box and enter these...
Red: 255
Green: 81
Blue: 5
Now you should have orange as your foreground
color.
Go to IMAGE>EFFECTS>DROP SHADOW and use these
settings...
Color: Foreground color
Opacity: 100
Blur: 58
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Click ok. This will create an orange glow behind
the text.
Now go to IMAGE>EFFECTS>CUTOUT and use these
settings...
Make sure Fill with color is not checked
Shadow Color: Foreground color
Opacity: 70
Blur: 8.7
Vertical: 2
Horizontal: 2
Click ok. Go to SELECTIONS>PROMOTE TO LAYER. Click
the Toggle Layer Palette button
and right click on the layer called Promoted Se..., click Properties,
when the dialog box comes up, where it says name type in Layer1 and
click ok. Right click on Layer1 and click Duplicate. Right click on the
layer called Copy Of Lay..., click Properties, when the dialog box comes
up, where it says name type in Layer2 and click ok. Go to
SELECTIONS>SELECT NONE or Ctrl D. On the layer palette make sure
Layer2 is selected and go to IMAGE>EFFECTS>CUTOUT and use these
settings...
Check Fill with color
Interior color: White
Shadow Color: Black
Opacity: 100
Blur: 8
Vertical: 2
Horizontal: -2
Click ok. Right click on Layer2 and click Duplicate.
Right click on the layer called Copy Of Lay..., click Properties, when
the dialog box comes up, where it says name type in Layer3 and click ok.
On the layer palette make sure Layer3 is selected and go to
IMAGE>EFFECTS>CUTOUT and use these settings...
Make sure Fill with color is not checked
Shadow Color: White
Opacity: 100
Blur: 3.1
Vertical: 2
Horizontal: -2
Click ok. On the Layer Palette, beside Layer1 &
Layer2 click the Layer Visibility Toggle buttons .
Now click on the Mover tool ,
click on the pic and move your mouse to the right 2 pixels. On the Layer
Palette, beside Layer2 & Layer3 click the Layer Visibility Toggle
buttons. Now click on the Mover tool, click on the pic and move your
mouse to the left 2 pixels. On the Layer Palette, beside Layer1 &
Layer3 click the Layer Visibility Toggle buttons. This is the image we
will be working with. Go to FILE>SAVE>SAVE AS where it says...File
Name, type in Work, where it says...Save as type, select Paint Shop Pro
Image(*.psp) and click save. On the Layer Palette click on Layer2 and
holding down the button drag and drop it on top of Layer1. On the Layer
Palette click on Layer1 and holding down the button drag and drop it on
top of Layer3. Now reading the layers from the top to the bottom they
should read...Layer1, Layer3, Layer2, Background. Click on Layer2, move
the Layer Opacity Slider to the left to 80, click the down arrow to
select a Blend mode and pick Dodge. Go to FILE>SAVE>SAVE AS, give
it a name and save it as a .jpg. and it looks like this...
Now go to FILE>OPEN and open the pic we saved
earlier named...work.psp. On the Layer Palette click on Layer2 and
holding down the button drag and drop it on top of Layer3. Now reading
the layers from the top to the bottom they should read...Layer2, Layer3,
Layer1, Background. Click on Layer2, move the Layer Opacity Slider to
the left to 76, click the down arrow to select a Blend mode and pick
Dodge. Go to FILE>SAVE>SAVE AS, give it a name and save it as a
.jpg. and it looks like this...
Now go to FILE>OPEN and open the pic
named...work.psp again. On the Layer Palette click on Layer1 and holding
down the button drag and drop it on top of Layer3. Now reading the
layers from the top to the bottom they should read...Layer1, Layer3,
Layer2, Background. Click on Layer1, move the Layer Opacity Slider to
the left to 71, click the down arrow to select a Blend mode and pick
Dissolve. Click on Layer2, move the Layer Opacity Slider to the left to
68, click the down arrow to select a Blend mode and pick Dodge. Go to
FILE>SAVE>SAVE AS, give it a name and save it as a .jpg. and it
looks like this...
Now go to FILE>OPEN and open the pic
named...work.psp again. On the Layer Palette click on Layer1 and holding
down the button drag and drop it on top of Layer3. Now reading the
layers from the top to the bottom they should read...Layer1, Layer3,
Layer2, Background. Click on Layer1, click the down arrow to select a
Blend mode and pick Burn. Click on Layer2, move the Layer Opacity Slider
to the left to 34, click the down arrow to select a Blend mode and pick
Dodge. Go to FILE>SAVE>SAVE AS, give it a name and save it as a
.jpg. and it looks like this...
Now go to FILE>OPEN and open the pic
named...work.psp again. Click on the Layer called Background. Make sure
your background color is Black. Go to EDIT>CLEAR. On the Layer
Palette, beside Layer1 & Layer3 click the Layer Visibility Toggle
buttons. Click on Layer2, click on the Retouch tool
and use these settings on the control palette...
Tool Controls...
Retouch Mode: Emboss
Paper: none
Brush Tip...
Shape: Round
Size: 32
Opacity: 100
Hardness: 0
Density: 100
Step: 25
Now drag over each letter. I did mine from top to
bottom.
Go to IMAGE>NOISE>ADD and use these
settings...
%Noise: 46
Check Uniform and click ok.
Now click on your foreground color box and pick
White. Go to IMAGE>OTHER>HOT WAX COATING,
COLORS>ADJUST>GAMMA CORRECTION and make sure Link is checked and
set them to 1.90, click ok. Go to
COLORS>ADJUST>HUE/SATURATION/LIGHTNESS and use these settings...
Hue: 0
Saturation: -100
Lightness: 0
Click ok. Go to COLORS>COLORIZE and use these
settings...
Hue: 14
Saturation: 205
Click ok. On the Layer Palette, beside Layer1 &
Layer3 click the Layer Visibility Toggle buttons. Now reading the layers
from the top to the bottom they should read...Layer3, Layer2, Layer1,
Background. Click on Layer3, move the Layer Opacity Slider to the left
to 71, click the down arrow to select a Blend mode and pick Multiply.
Click on Layer2, click the down arrow to select a Blend mode and pick
Lighten. Go to FILE>SAVE>SAVE AS, give it a name and save it as a
.jpg. and it looks like this...
