Death of Augustus Falconi

Apalachicola's Popular Marshal Dies
After a Short Illness.

   Augustus Falconi was born April 2d, 1870, and died May 24th, 1911, after an illness of nineteen days of a complication of diseases.  His place of nativity was Old Belese, La., 110 miles from New Orleans.

   Relatives surviving him are John T. Davis, of Apalachicola, Alonza Falconi, of Hammond, La., Mrs. Pauline West, of Brookhaven, Miss.

   Deceased came to Apalachicola about nineteen years ago and he lived here continuously to the time of his death.

   He married Miss Ruth Cullen, of Apalachicola, July 22nd, 1896, and the widow survives him.

  He was a member of Orion Lodge No. 28, K. of P., also a member of Gulf City Camp No. 28, W. O. W., carrying a life insurance policy of $2,000 in the latter organization.

   Mr. Falconi was appointed city policeman some seven years ago and he served in that capacity for three years.  At the death of Mr. Wm. Schoelles four years ago he was appointed Marshal to fill the unexpired term.  At the expiration of the term he was elected, and won the place by election continuously from that date.

The Funeral

took place from Trinity church Thursday afternoon, Rector Purdue officiating.  The following gentlemen acted as pall bearers:  From the W. O. W. -J. P. Anthony, J. J. Zingarelli, C. G. Montgomery.  From the K. of P.--John Schoelles, John Pace, Will Wing.

  There were 62 Woodmen and Pythians in the line of march.  In addition there were fully as many citizens who did not belong to either of these organizations.

   Interment was in Chestnut Street Cemetery.  After a prayer by Rector Purdue and a hymn by the choir, the W. O. W. burial service was read and the members of both orders deposited in the open grave sprigs of cedar and the grave was filled.

   There were many pretty flowers in evidence, sent by friends of the deceased.  These were placed upon the grave.

   Mr. Falconi had many friends in Apalachicola and his death is deeply deplored by the entire community.
