10/15/02 Honors Bio Habitat Destruction ...hundreds of animals are in grave danger of extinction, start helping them by educating yourself and making a difference... The destruction of habitats is a problem all over the world. We are constantly invading the natural homes of hundreds of animals, by building roads, homes, and buildings. Tree harvesting and farmlands also deprive innumerable animals from their homes. In fact habitat loss is the main reason so many animals are endangered. A species that is endangered is in danger of becoming extinct, and a species that is threatened is in danger of becoming endangered. There are many endangered animals world wide such as the panda, tiger, and humpback whale, but their are also many endangered species here in Pennsylvania such as the bald eagle, great egret, and yellow-crowned night heron. A species being endangered throws the entire ecosystem of balance. If there is no predator, the prey overpopulates, depletes their resources and starves, and if there is no prey the predators have nothing to eat and starve. We can help stop habitat loss by reusing and fixing up buildings that are no longer used setting side land to be put in national parks, and planting trees. By helping to save the habitat we help to save many endangered species, by merely donating a few dollars to a charity or planting a few trees we can make a difference.
