My direct family is small: my brother Juan Carlos, my sister Ana Lilia,
our parents and myself. My parents got divorced a long time ago, and so
I got to live with my mother, my brother and my sister. My mother is a
retired nurse and my father is a lawyer. When I was little I used to
spend a lot of time alone at home, sitting in front of the TV and
reading a lot of books. Unfortunately my father worked all day long,
and my mother always worked at the hospital in the second shift, so
when we were at school she was at home preparing everything so when we
came back she would only have time to fix lunch and then prepare to
leave, and when she was back home from work we were already asleep, and
it was like this even until I got to work, having graduated from
university. My cousin Alex once told me he was surprised to see how the
three of us managed to stay out of trouble without having almost any
guidance from our parents, since we were alone most of the time. Later
he would say this was only due to the grace of God that kept us out of
danger and the most horrible sins that exist out there, although this
didn't automatically make us any better than the rest of the people,
because we never really heard about Jesus, although my mother's side of
the family has been in the Church of Christ for five generations now.
One of my
great grandparents was a founding member of the church we attend now,
"El Divino Redentor" Presbyterian Church in Toluca.
Creativity runs within the family. My grandmother wrote a poem when her
firstborn son died (you can read it below). Most of my aunts, uncles
and
cousins are into drawing, painting, writing and other creative
activities, although not at the professional level, sometimes just as a
hobby. At present only two members of the family are full-time artists:
my cousin Benjamin who lives in Monterrey and my sister Ana, who lives
in Toluca. Benjamin has shown his work in New York, Barcelona and other
places, and my sister's still at school, but hopefully she'll begin
working and showing her works to the world, God willing.
You can also read my grandfather's testimony (click on the links below)
which he wrote in
his 50th wedding aniversary in 1986. 19 years have passed to this day,
and now they have been married for almost 70 years now.
My brother has been married to Iliana for a year and a half now. I
consider her my new sister (although before they got married I felt
like
she was stealing my best friend). It's strange to see all the
little brothers and sisters of my elder cousins and friends getting
married before any of us big brothers and sisters.
When I was young and full of illusions which now
I laugh at,
I dreamt of being the owner of a great land,
and now I own a piece of that,
but, how bitter a piece of land!
Under a somber cypress is the grave where they buried my son.
With him rest all my dreams of power, glory and love.
And before heaven and men, that piece of land is mine!
