The Royal Concert Hall's audience screamed "We love you Tracy!" on
Thursday evening.
Having just flown over from the States, Ms. Chapman said: "We're
all suffering from jet-lag, so please bear with us."
Tired from her travels or not, her sense of humour shined — and
with laughter the audience showed its appreciation.
The audience cheered, wolf whistled and clapped almost throughout
her performance, as she played popular folk-rock favourites such as
'Fast Car', 'Forgive me' and 'Revolution." And the new songs kept
the temperature above 100 degrees Celsius.
Her performance was excellent throughout, even though she
complained about using the wrong guitar for one number. "It sounded
different didn't it?" she asked her band, apologising to the packed
auditorium.
The crowd were on their feet towards the end of the show. People
danced and sang along with Ms. Chapman, adding to the concert hall's
electric atmosphere.
Her politically based music is inspiring, even if you disagree
with her politics. It is very thought provoking, as well as
melodious and encapsulating.
The only regret that I had on the evening was that there were no
CDs on sale after the show ... and of course, like all of her fans,
I'd have loved to have gone backstage.
But then if I said that I had, I would be on my own 'Telling
Stories Tour!"
Tracy Chapman is shortly to
appear on Later With Jools Holland, BBC2
