Young and witty, Harleen Quinzel interned at the dreary Arkham Asylum by her own decision, interested in producing a book about criminal mystique. Unsuccessful, Dr. Quinzel instead fell head-over-heels for Gotham's most notorious villain, the Joker. Emerald hair, ruby red lips, ridiculous yellow teeth. A killer smile that did it for Harleen. It did everything and more.

The night that the Dark Knight returned the malicious Clown Prince of Crime to the asylum beaten and bloodied, Harleen's vulnerable mind snapped in two. She made herself over in white grease paint, a jester costume and a black domino mask, all stolen from a nearby costume shop. From then on, Harleen Quinzel was no more and the insane Harley Quinn had taken her place, in the form of a Harlequin jester.

Since her alliance with the Caliph of Clowns, she stands at her full height by his side as his self-appointed girlfriend, hoping to one day tie the knot. It is not all fun and games for Harley, though. She is also the scapegoat for all the mistakes the Joker makes during his encounters with the Batman. Because of this, Harley often takes beatings from the Joker since she is convinced that he actually loves her.

Often being thrown out of the Joker's guild due to his temper, Harley makes her way to Pamela Isley, the botanical terror of Gotham, Poison Ivy. Over the years, Harley and Ivy have formed an inseparable relationship and are perfect partners in crime. They continue to be friends eventhough Harley always makes her way back to the Joker, refusing to give him up. Although her life may seem as if she is a slave to him, Harley remains ever loyal. In her eyes, the Joker can do no wrong.
