Review

This in one of the best and most completely comprehensive Internet resources that I have found on any English Literature text. It begins with an extended piece of writing About the Author. This is followed by the Works of William Golding, which does not merely list his writings, but goes into precise details about his literary background, the tremendous realism in his novels, his use of symbolism, and a general view of his work overall. It then goes on to outline the essence of three of his most famous novels, Lord Of The Flies, The Inheritors and Free Fall. The Plot Summary is the most detailed and insightful I have found, and is an excellent overview of the novel for pupils or teachers. The Character Sketches are brief but concise and each comes with a photograph of the character from the film adaptation of the book and in another part of the site are the Character Analyses, which are much more detailed. Each of these discusses the background and personality of the character and what their character symbolises. The Essay Questions section offers sixteen sample questions under the heading of The Ideas of Golding, and a further ten under The Form of Lord Of The Flies, and each question comes complete with a model answer. The LOTF Bulletin Board provides pupils with the facility to post questions about any difficulties they are having with understanding the novel and the Other Resource page contains a series of links to other websites where information about the novel can be found.
