"Rejection" 1/1
It's kind of an odd feeling. It's like pure joy and a burden being lifted
off your shoulders at the same time. I never thought slicing the throat of
someone you hate could be like that. As the knife sliced through Riley's
skin and the warm blood passed over my hand, I felt...I don't
know...righteous.
I still remember that day. You know the one I'm talking about, don't you?
That day I brought you out into the courtyard of Sunnydale High and sat you
down, saying I had something important to tell you. I poured my heart out to
you that day and you stomped all over it. Because I wasn't him. Well, he's
gone now. He left you, he's in Las Angeles doing his own thing. But that
didn't stop you from continuing to give me pain, did it?
Like the little tramp you are, you ran into the first guy's bed that had the
covers turned down. Good old Parker Abrams. But he didn't want you either.
He saw you for the trash that you are and he threw you out on the street.
Then came old soldier boy, here. I couldn't bear to see you two make puppy
dog eyes at each other one more time. And as he dies at my feet with you
crying, clinging to his bloody corpse, I'm glad I did it. I'm glad I'm doing
this too. The knife slips almost as easy into your gut as it did his throat.
For a Slayer, you die fairly easily.
You know, Buff, that sunny day in the courtyard I told you that I didn't
handle rejection well.
I was wrong. I handle rejection very well.
But I handle vengeance even better.
