C'est Moi
I thought long and hard as to whether I should include an “about me” page on the website. After all, I know that such a page only gives me license to be thoroughly silly! I did contemplate this:
|
"Hi, I'm Fairy, and I am twenty-one years old. I live in London, UK, and am in my second year of university. I read a lot, write a lot, and have a particular penchant for a strong cup of coffee and a marlboro light. I cherish my music collection, make a mean balsamic vinegrette, and like to consider myself something of a pseudo-feminist. I love porridge, hate sultanas with a passion, and consider myself the original Madonna groupie. I'd like to be a journalist one day, and a psychologist, and a coconut seller on a beach in Barbados. I laugh like Goofy, sing like a moose and I wiggle my hips far too much when I dance...."

But decided against it. Instead I suppose I can tell you a little about why I designed this site in the first place. I have had an eating disorder for almost six years now, having been diagnosed with anorexia at the age of fifteen. Living with an eating disorder is an isolating experience and one can often feel very alone. There is so much nervous energy channeled into the maintenance of an eating disorder that, for once, I wanted to take that energy and use it for another, more constructive, purpose. If any one of you feels that little bit less alone for having visited my site, then that purpose has been realised.
[If you want to know more about my experience of eating disorders then feel free to read an article I wrote a few years ago, when an inpatient. To read it, click here.] |
