SHE CAN READ!!! SHE CAN READ!!! SHE CAN READ!!!

Physical development

Elizabeth Grace loves active to play she does not tire quickly. She can be reckless and cause items to fall or such but she really does pay fair attention to her surroundings. I will not allow her to cross streets without hand-holding nor do I leave the keys in the ingnition if she's in the vehicle though I've taught her the skills of being careful, it's just not expected yet. She's improving her cart-wheels and just learned how to keep a Hula-Hoop aloft. I expect her corridination to falter as she grows in leaps and bounds but she's done great so far. EG just asked me to put up the Tetherball again.

Even though this is the period that kids dawdle a lot, she's not much of a dawdler or perhaps I just haven't noticed. I should pay a bit more attention so that I react appropriately. She's currently wiggling her 8th tooth loose and it will fall out rather soon.

She's 45 inches tall and weighs about 43 pounds. (measurements need to be made, these are guesses) Her hair is in a LONG pony tail that reaches past her bottom.

Coloring, painting and cutting are some of her favored activities. She's better at cutting than I'd expect though she does miss the lines some.

Did I mention that SHE CAN READ!!!

Emotional development

Elizabeth Grace most deffinately has unpredictable mood swings. Yesterday, she was so "hurt" by an incident of spitting water between herself and another girl and by Mom's reaction to pour the rest of the cups of water on the girls... I was quite concerned how long it took her to settle down. Perhaps it's because she is quite sensitive to criticism at this time. She takes 100% of what is said, and done to her and does her best to make it better. With this incident, she lied about it all to me and to Marquita, her older sister (13.5yrs older). Once she admitted to it, she really settled down quickly though she hid her face when we discussed it with Daddy.

Social development

Elizabeth Grace does evaluate herself and friends. I often need to point out the true reality of a situation. She only sees things from her very young point of view pulling ideas that she's heard from the family. She has started imposing the daycare rules to the other children quite harshly. I have to try to get her to understand the WHY of some rules so that she doesn't impose them in the wrong way.
She cooperates very well with other children. She does have a sense of understanding of others that most children her age lack. Perhaps, just perhaps, it has to do with being in this daycare situation her entire life. She considers other's feelings when a decision is made though she is beginning to forget how human we all are.

To Daddy's dismay, Elizabeth Grace is desiring some independence. She wants her VERY LONG hair cut so that she can tend to it herself. He feels that others have made her think of this and does not understand that a child comes to a point in her life that she'd like to bathe without assistance.

By the way - Did I mention that SHE CAN READ!!!

Mental development

EG likes taking responsibility for simple household chores. She walked around the other day and did everything she could think of. It was terribly cute. I think it might be related to the fact that she likes to make simple decisions. Decisions of what to clean and when, what to eat and when, what to wear... It helps her feel more grown up, I'm sure.

Counting to 100 has now taken a back seat to counting by fives, twos and tens. We will be moving upward to counting by 3s and such.
EG most deffinatly has begun to understand differences of opinion. However, it's quite related to the understanding of a 6yr mentioned above.

Developmental charts say that she should have a short attention span of 15min or less. I've not noticed this at all. She'll paint and color for very long periiods of time. She does NOT watch much TV out of choice. I do keep saying things like, "EG doesn't like to watch TV, it's more fun to color or play." She really has begun to enjoy dramatic play. Yesterday she was playing with puppets and made a puppet stand out of a large toy. When I said it was time to do something else, she balked. She did not want to stop playing with the puppets.

Oh YES ... SHE CAN READ!!!
