Chapter 4

A large part of Logan was desperately wishing that he could simply punch his claws through Magnethead’s chest and have it done with. However, Logan knew that he would be helpless against the older man. A simple thought and Magneto could fling him across the room or hold him immobile. Logan hated that it was left up to Marie to save them, but knew that they had no other options. Magneto still believed that Marie was Mystique. And while it unnerved Logan to no end, the fact that Marie was able to impersonate Mystique so perfectly was the only reason that he was out of that room.

“You do realize that you put him in a very cold room, don’t you?” Marie inquired, once again smoothing her fingers through Logan’s hair.

“And what does that have to do with him wearing Sabertooth’s coat?” Magneto asked, seemingly intrigued by Marie’s explanation.

A smile appeared on Marie’s face. “Well I wasn’t about to fuck a cold body. Creed was nearby so I was able to entice him to give up his coat.”

“That so? And how exactly did you convince him to do that?”

Marie’s hand trailed down the back of Logan’s throat. “I didn’t do it. I left that privilege up to the Wolverine himself. Our two boys had a little fight, winner got the coat.”

Magneto clasped his hands together. “Excellent! This is turning out to be better than I had planned.”

Standing up on tip toe, Marie ran his tongue along Logan’s throat. “I have a feeling that the Wolverine will continue to perform well now that he has joined us.”

“You have done well, Mystique, as always. I am impressed,” Magneto praised, the smile on his face worrying Logan greatly.

Marie nodded her head. “I’m glad to be of service. Now, if you will excuse me, I have plans for the Wolverine that require solitude.”

“By all means, my dear. The Wolverine is all yours,” Magneto consented, holding his arms wide.

With a nod and a quick squeeze to Logan’s throat, Marie continued down the corridor once again. Logan could feel her trembling slightly, her nerves on edge. Logan was proud of Marie for holding it together like that. Marie had to have been the strongest person that he knew. She had been through so much-- so much more than she should have been --and Logan admired her for it. The only reason there had been any violence involved in their escape was because of him. He had nearly ruined their chance of escape.

As soon as they were around the corner, Marie released her grip on Logan’s neck and flung her arms around him. “Gawd, Logan! Ah thought fer sure he was gonna figure us out!”

Logan squeezed her tightly, pressing his face against her throat. “I can’t believe that you pulled that off. You are amazing, Marie. I would never have been able to pull that off.”

Pulling back, Marie smoothed her fingers through Logan’s hair, brushing it back from her face. “Ah got lucky is all. Now let’s get goin’. Ah wanna get outta here as fast as possible.”

“You really don’t think that I’m going to let you leave no, do you?”

Both Logan and Marie stilled completely at the sound of Magneto’s voice. Spinning around, Logan placed himself between the older man and Marie. He would protect her with his life if need be.

“Now really, Wolverine. You don’t think that you’ll be able to stop me on our own?” Magneto drawled, stepping forward and raising a hand in Logan’s direction.

With a quick flick of a wrist, Logan found himself pinned to the opposite wall. He was forced to watch, defenseless, as Toad grabbed hold of Marie, locking her hands behind her back with a pair of thick metal cuffs. Logan roared when he saw the tears fill Marie’s eyes and slowly began to fall down her cheeks. He wanted to do something, anything to help her, but he was helpless.

“Now, my dear, I realize that it would be very easy for you to escape right now,” Magneto said, coming up to stand directly in front of Marie’s whimpering form. “However, I feel that it is my job to inform you that should you do something foolish and try to escape, I will be forced to do this.”

All that Logan could do was scream as he felt his bones beginning to twist in a very unnatural way. Sockets popped out of joint and Logan could feel his bones being crushed by the metal surrounding them.

“No!” Marie screamed, struggling to free herself from Toad’s grasp. “Let him go! Logan!”

“Scream all you want, it will help nothing,” Magneto informed her.

Logan could smell Marie’s tears and it made his rage grow even more. He was supposed to protect Marie. It was his job to keep her safe and Magneto was keeping him from doing that. Straining against the aging mutant’s powers, Logan kept his eyes trained on Marie who was sobbing in the middle of the corridor.

“Marie....” Logan groaned, whimpering as his body began to twist in ways that it wasn’t supposed to.

“Please, let him go!” Marie pleaded. “Yer hurtin’ him!”

Magneto started to laugh. “I do believe that is the point, my dear. You didn’t really think that I would let you escape with my most prized possession, did you? It took me a long while to track down the Wolverine and I’m not about to lose him to some love sick girl who’s trying to impersonate her mother.”

Marie blanched when he said that, her eyes darting to Logan. “What are ya talkin’ about? Mah Momma wasn’t nothin’ like that bitch.”

Logan dropped to the ground suddenly, biting back a cry of pain. He carefully rolled onto his side, attempting to alleviate the pain that went bone deep. The pain only became worse as his bones attempted to heal around bones that refused to straighten. At one point, Logan blacked out, his mind unable to cope with the damage being inflicted on his body.

“ALL RIGHT! AH’LL DO IT!” Marie shouted, cutting through the haze of pain that surrounded Logan. “Just please stop hurtin’ him. Stop hurtin’ him....”

Almost at once, Logan felt bones in his body straightening once again with the aid of Magneto’s powers. Each and every one of the metallic implants were molded back into shape, allowing the bones beneath to heal correctly.

Sluggishly lifting his head off the ground, Logan’s gaze landed on Marie who was crouched on the ground, her head bowed on the ground. She was sobbing loudly, her entire body shaking with the force of her sobs. Forcing his aching limbs to respond, Logan crawled towards her. She seemed to sense his presence, lifting her head up and turning towards him as he got close.

Logan’s fingers were just able to brush against her right knee, Marie was suddenly snatched away from him.

“No!” Marie shrieked as she was lifted into the air and flung over Toad’s shoulder.

“Now really, my dear. We can’t let you be tainted by this animal,” Magneto said with a sigh. “Toad, take the Rogue to her new accommodations. I’ll deal with the Wolverine myself.”

Marie continued screaming as Toad began walking away. She continuously shouted Logan’s name, shaking her head in order to get her long mane of hair out of her face long enough to see him. As soon as Logan caught sight of her tear filled eyes, his claws extended involuntarily.

“Now really, my dear boy, is that really necessary?” Magneto said, clearly exasperated. “Put those blasted things away before I am forced to remove them.”

Logan unwillingly retracted his claws, pressing his forehead against the floor. He could still hear Marie’s screams echoing in the corridor. “I’m begging you not to hurt her,” Logan pleaded, his fingers searching out the spot of warmth on the floor where Marie had been crouched.

The spot of warmth was fading fast, but Logan was still able to find it.

“Fear not, Wolverine, the girl will come to no harm,” Magneto assured him, not that Logan could vouch by what he said.

“Yeah, like I’m really gonna believe that,” Logan growled, his hand flattening out to catch the last bit of warmth the floor contained.

There was still a faint trace of warmth remaining when Logan felt himself being yanked off the floor by an unseen force. He was flipped over onto his back while he continued to dangle in mid-air.

“Since your little lover put Sabertooth out of commission, I unfortunately need to do this myself,” Magneto grumbled under his breath as he started in the opposite direction.

“Let me go, you fucker!” Logan roared, twisting his head in order to get a glimpse of the older man. “You have no right to do this to us!”

“That is your opinion, my dear boy. I am afraid to say that mine differs slightly,” Magneto said calmly. “That girl has the potential to be one of the most powerful mutants on the planet and I need you to control her. That girl could keep us from being annihilated by the filth of humanity.”

“I’ll fucking kill you before you make her to do anything you want!” Logan shouted, struggling even more against a hold that he knew he couldn’t break. “You won’t fucking touch her! She is too good for you to manipulate her like that!”

“Goodness has nothing to do with it. The girl will do whatever I want because I now hold your life in the palm of my hand,” Magneto informed her, a quick wave of his hand sending Logan flying through a doorway that Logan hadn’t noticed before.

Logan crashed into the wall before crumpling to the ground. He could vaguely hear the sound of the door closing before his mind sunk into blessed oblivion.
