The AMX was shown to the press in February 1968 at Daytona Beach, Florida and the Chicago Auto Show. Power was supplied by a 390 cid version of the second generation AMC V-8, pumping out 315hp.
Result, instant respect for the AMC. Craig Breedlove established 106 world speed records in February 68 around a test track to help the respect for the car even further.
