Sidney George Neff

 

Sidney George Neff 1886

 

Sidney George Neff, Sr. was born on January 8, 186l in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois. He was the second son of George North and Mary Elizabeth Hamilton Neff. On August 10, the year Sidney was born, his father volunteered his services to the Third Illinois Cavalry, Company 1, at Camp Butler in Springfield, Illinois. When the Civil War was over, Sidney moved with his family; first to Colorado, then to Ottawa, Kansas and finally to Wichita, Kansas, in the 1870's, where Sidney would learn his profession, get married and raise his family, until 1928 when he passed away.

 

Sidney married Ethel Morris on July 27, 1887 in Wichita. Sidney and Ethel were the parents of two sons, Morris North (born 1894) and Sidney George, Jr. (born 1899).

 

Sidney and his brother, Claud Neff, were proprietors of a shop in Wichita which engaged in the business of boots, shoes, harnesses and saddles. The business was known as Neff Brothers Boots and Shoes and was located on Douglas Street. Sidney also owned a mine that produced copper.

Sidney died in 1928 and was interred at the Wichita Park Cemetery. Ethel Morris Neff passed away in 1956 and was interred at the same cemetery.
