my stories

i had heard of Depeche Mode before, but i didn't know much about them or really any of their songs (i had heard a couple but didn't know they were Depeche songs). i knew my sister liked them, even though she told me they were good, i didn't listen. i thought they were just some 80's band that faded away like so many others. i was really in to industrial/dance stuff, and i liked this electro-industrial band called Hate Dept. they did a cover of "master and servant" on the 'newer wave' compilation. i thought i just liked the band, and wouldn't like the original song. the same went for rammstein's cover of "stripped" and smashing pumpkin's cover of "never let me down again" (i think i vaguely knew these were Depeche songs).

so anyway, i bought a Hate Dept promo cd/marketing tool that had some songs and some interview bits on it. they said Depeche Mode was their favorite synth band, and i thought "wow, if hate dept likes them that much, maybe i outta listen to them". i knew we had the 'singles 86>98' at work (i work at the library) so i finally checked it out (i had seen it and thought about it before, but was never motivated). (this was all sometime before Christmas time 2000) i listened to the cds and liked them alot (i returned them several weeks late). my sister was so proud. when she came to visit for christmas, she had made me a tape of 101. i dragged her to the cd store and found 'songs of faith and devotion'. she said it was one of her favs so i bought it. i listened to it a few times and liked it some. i didn't listened to 101.

about month or 2 later, i discovered bauhaus, and they utterly consumed me. for a couple of months i listened to nothing but them. several weeks ago when i finally started listening to other stuff again, something promted me to listen to SOFAD on my headphones. for some reason, i heard things i hadn't heard before, industrial things that i liked, this caused me to fiend to hear 'the singles 86>98' again, so i re-checked it out. GODDAMN, why hadn't i noticed how industrial they could be before? so i listened to 101, WOW! GODDAMN, why didn't i listen to this before? i bought Alternative Press magazine and found out their new album had just come out. i knew they were on tour because someone on the peter murphy mailing list had mentioned it. (but alas, not anywhere near me, i should be used to it by now) i visited some DM websites and found out more about them. (i couldn't decide if i thought Dave was cute or not). as i read more and more about them i found out about dave's problems in the mid 90's and how he is now, and i was amazed at his honesty and wisdom. (yep, he's a hottie!) so i started buying everything (see my collection) i could (and still am!).

i love them more and more AND MORE everyday! Martin is a very gifted songwriter, Dave is as sexy as hell, and Fletch is... umm... there. It's amazing that they're still together, and alive, and still so incredible. WOW!

~that's all for now, but lots more to come when i'm not so tired~
