On February third 2002 Megan Daniele, Jane and Jeff Brelvi, and myself (Heather Lightcap) had the opportunity to attend the first of the four Family series of shows for CPAG and receive recognition for the charity benefit performance of “A Chorus Line” that we did back in December.
When all four of us arrived we were asked our names by a newspaper reporter. Then Jeff and I went outside and posed with the Hackettstown fire chief and his assistant along with other representatives from the charities and organizations we had collected about $3000 for. That picture can be seen in the February 10th Star Gazette.
After that, everyone attending the performance was filed into the theatre to watch the show. Before the start of the show all four of us were called onstage to be recognized in front of the audience for the donation to the many charities. Mrs. Brelvi, who organized the charity function, and members of the organizations that we gave to were also onstage. One by one each of us introduced ourselves and got thanked for donating money and helping people get through the tragic times of September 11th.
Following that was the show called “Mime over Matter…” in which Bill Bowers, who had preformed in the Broadway show “The Lion King”, and various TV shows among other things, did a solo performance all about miming. Throughout the show Bill demonstrated examples of miming and introduced the audience to terms used in miming. It was a good, informative show that the kids loved.
This was a very rewarding experience that really made me realize that you don’t have to go out of you way to give to others. To all of the cast in “A Chorus Line” it was just another night of doing what we love, performing. I thought it was a shame that the whole cast couldn’t be there that day because the show and giving definitely wasn’t just the four of us. It was the whole cast working together to try to help others by doing just a small deed that in the end helped others more than we could have imagined.
