Musical Numbers

This is the list of musical numbers as of June 7th. However, Stephen Schwartz is already working on revisions. We do not know when these will be instated into the show, but note that this list will most likely change.

Note: Listen for Kristin Chenoweth to sing 20 octaves above the score and the rest of the cast in most ensemble numbers. She is amazing. Also she does cool dynamics so the words go "iiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII knew you"

ACT I

"No One Mourns The Wicked"

Glinda and Citizens of OZ

Oz-ians and Glinda rejoice in the death of Elphaba. Elphaba's birth is also incorporated.

Commentary: Excellent choreography accompanied this very rousing first number.

"Dear old Shiz"

Students

We meet the faculty and students of Elphaba's college. We also meet Elphaba.

Commentary: Not extremely memorable -we will get more notes tomorrow.

"The Wizard and I"

Morrible and Elphaba

Good song - we get to hear Idina belt!

Above is the Commentary. Didn't want to mention plot.

"What is This Feeling?"

Glinda,Elphaba, and Students

Commentary: Very funny and good choreography.

"Which Way is the Party / We Deserve Each Other"

Fiyero, Glinda, Boq, Nessarose, Elphaba, and Students

Commentary: Humorous song followed by a more sentimental one. Good Choreography again and exciting.

"Popular"

Glinda

Commentary: Glinda steals the show with this number. Extremely funny and possibly the best number in the show.

"I'm Not That Girl"

Elphaba

Commentary: Very sentimental number and see it yourself.

"Dear Old Shiz (reprise)"

Mourners

Not that memorable so see it yourself

"The Wizard and I Reprise"

Elphaba

Commentary: Good Idina belting song

"One Short Day"

Elphaba, Glinda, and Denizens of the Emerald City

Commentary: The staging and costumes surpassed the memorability of the song.

"A Sentimental Man / The Chance to Fly"

The Wizard, Elphaba, Morrible, and Glinda

Commentary: Two not so memorable songs. The first is a nice little tune for the wizard. The latter is a fairly emotional scene.

"Defying Gravity"

Elphaba, Glinda, Guards, and Citizens of Oz

Commentary: Personally I don't even remember those other people, because this was clearly Idina's hit song. One of the best songs in show. Lovely staging.

ACT II

"Thank Goodness / I Couldn't Be Happier"

Revelers, Morrible, and Glinda

Commentary: Two songs with a sad feel behind a joyous facade.

"We Deserve Each Other (reprise)"

? Find out for yourself

Commentary: Again a sentimental duet.

"Wonderful"

The Wizard and Elphaba

Commentary: Cool vaudeville number. Ben seems to like it better than I did. I'll watch again tomorrow.

"I'm Not That Girl (reprise)"

Glinda

Commentary: As good as the first yet much shorter. Kristin sings really low.

"As Long As You're Mine"

Elphaba and ? same situation

Commentary: Really rousing duet - bit creepy but intended.

"No Good Deed"

Elphaba

Commentary: Not as memorable as others but still good. Very emotional.

"March of the Witch Hunters"

Boq and Citizens of Oz

Commentary: Ben and I only really remember chanting but I'm sure it was amazingly written chanting.

"For Good"

Glinda and Elphaba

Commentary: Biggest tear jerker in the show. Beautiful ballad.

"No One Mourns the Wicked (reprise)"

Citizens of Oz

Commentary: As good as the first

"A Sentimental Man (reprise)"

The Wizard

Commentary: Sad reminiscent number.

"Finale"

Company

Commentary: Incredible and loud ending (not a bad thing).
