Junto con «There's A Place», «Misery» es una de las dos bellas durmientes de Please Please Me. Ambas son originales Lennon-McCartney, compuestas principalmente por John. Lo que las vuelve exquisitas es la mezcla sublime de las voces de Paul y John, especialmente en la entrada tartamudeada y el fraseo vocal sostenido de «There's A Place». Esta canción también ofrece el primer indicio de la sensibilidad librepensadora que John articularía más plenamente en composiciones tales como «I'm Only Sleeping» y «Tomorrow Never Knows».
