WOMEN'S CHOIR 'AIJA' from LATVIA
Women's choir "AIJA" was founded in 1992. The choir's conductor is GUNTA VITE. There are 35 singers (17-35 years old) in the choir-students, teachers, doctors, etc. Every year the choir takes part in some choir competition in Latvia. The first international recognition in Latvia (Rigas Zile 96'-second place), and in Czech Republic (Chorus Camerus'96-"AIJA" won the Grand Prix and got the Golden Diplom) which was followed by achievements in Spain (Catalonia-1997). In 1997 the first place in the 11th International St.Šimkus choir competition (Lithuania,Klaipeda). In 1998-the third place in the first International choir competition in Hungary (Pecs), the third place in 22nd Latvian Song Festival (Riga) and the third placein 6th International sacral music choir competition "Giovanni Perluigi da Palestrina" in Italy (Roma). In 1999 the third place in 12th International ST.Šimkus choir competition (Lithuania,Klaipeda). In 2000 the first place and Golden Cup in 2nd International Choir Competition "Isola del Sole" (Grado,Italy).The repetoire of the choir includes sacral music - the choir gives regular concerts in churches and also secular music. The choir likes to sing compositions of the conteporary Latvian composers and gives the recital - concerts of these composers.
