TRAVEL AND TRASPORTATION

Traveling with students is an enormous undertaking on the part of the school district and its employees. The purpose of traveling is to provide an educational, motivational, and fun opportunity for students yet still ensure the safety of every child. In order to guarantee that this goal is realized, the following policies and guidelines have been established:

§         No student will be allowed to drive him/herself to any event. Provided transportation must be used.

§         A student may only be picked up early from an event by the following four reasons: 1) with permission from and at the discretion of the director, 2) for warranted reasons, 3) by a parent or guardian, and 4) after watching other groups perform.

§         Students are expected to behave on the bus according to school district policy. This includes leaving the bus clean. Different students will be asked to stay and help ensure the cleanliness of the bus on a rotating basis.

§         All students will help with loading and unloading of equipment. Those that refuse will be put on extra duty.

§         Chamber Choir and the Advanced Women’s Choir members will wear their warm-ups when not in performing costume. Those that don’t will not be allowed to travel or perform or will be given an alternate outfit to wear. Other groups may have mandatory clothing to wear while traveling.

§         Even though students are asked to bring money for meals, large amounts are not necessary nor is it essential to bring jewelry, expensive CD players or other items of value.

§         On our return trips, all students are given the opportunity to call home with an exact time of arrival. A student may use his/her own cell phone or that of the director. This should make pick up much more convenient for the parent that attempting to estimate a time of arrival. Therefore, parents are expected to be waiting in the parking lot to pick up their student. If the director or a chaperone must habitually wait for a student to be picked up, the student will no longer be allowed to travel with the group.
