Episode Summary:

DISC ONE

Episode 1: It's Alive!
After killing his brother Brian, the Ice Truck Killer, at the end of last season, Dexter now finds himself unable to kill again. He certainly wants to, and in fact needs to, but he is unnerved by feelings he can't understand. Drifting from the "Code of Harry," Dexter goes after a particularly dangerous victim named Little Chino in order to regain his old form - with disastrous results. After nearly being killed by the Ice Truck Killer, Debra returns to work at Miami Metro PD, but shows signs that she may not be ready to resume duty just yet. Meanwhile, Dexter's biggest secret is about to surface for all the world to see.

However, he soon finds himself being pursued, all while haunted by memories of his dead brother, the Ice Truck Killer. As they both struggle with their recent pasts, Agent Lundy, a high-profile FBI agent, comes to Miami Metro PD to break the case of the city's newly discovered serial killer, The Bay Harbor Butcher.

Episode 3: An Inconvenient Lie
Dexter stalks his latest victim: A murderer so vile he could only be a used-car salesman. Dexter finds the man's smooth-talking charm and effortless lying something that he lacks himself these days. In fact, Dexter's inability to lie to Rita about his midnight activities has caused her to think that he's a drug addict, and if he doesn't commit to a 12-step program to deal with his addiction, she threatens to leave him. In recovery, however, Dexter meets a mysterious and sexy woman named Lila.

DISC TWO

Episode 4: See-Through
Dexter gets an N.A. sponsorto please Rita in his new disguise of pretending to be a drug addict. But Rita isn't happy when the sponsor turns out to be the beautiful Lila, who may have more in common with Dexter than Rita does. Things get worse for Rita when her extranged mother comes for a visit. Meanwhile, Dexter must find a way to throw the all-too-smart FBI Agent Lundy, now working with Miami Metro PD, off his trail.

Episode 5: The Dark Defender
Dexter discovers the man who killed his mother, before his young eyes, is still alive. When he shares this information with Lila, she suggests he face the man, as part of his "steps" to addiction recovery. And as his sponsor she insists on tagging along. But when Dexter finds his mother's murderer, his killer urges push him back to the knife's edge.

Episode 6: Dex, Lies and Videotape
Dexter is none too pleased to discover a copycat killer has started his own attempt at vigilante serial murder in Miami. He is even less pleased to learn the new killer claims to be inspired by the "Bay Harbor Butcher." As Dexter sets out to stop the imposter, he finds himself drawn into the arms of Lila. When Rita discovers the truth, it could be the end of their relationship.

Episode 7: That Night, A Forest Grew
A written manifesto from the "Bay Harbor Butcher" sends the Special Task Force in charge of capturing the killer into chaos. All part of Dexter's plan as he tries to be more "pro-active" in keeping Agent Lundy off his trail. But things start to spiral downward for Dexter as Lila's influence begins to take its toll on Dexter's personal life.

DISC THREE

Episode 8: Morning Comes
After a fire at Lila's place, Dexter finds her becoming more attached to him than he is comfortable with. Meanwhile, Dexter decides "recovery" isn't working for him and he pays a second visit to the man who murdered his mother. At the station, Debra and Lundy find a clue that points to the Bay Harbor Butcher being right under their noses.

Episode 9: Resistance Is Futile
As Dexter tries to distance himself from Lila, he discovers she is not so willing to let go of their relationship. Meanwhile, Lundy's manhunt for the Bay Harbor Butcher starts to make Dexter nervous as he tries to stay one step ahead. However, in the end it is Dexter's worst enemy who discovers his secret first.

Episode 10: There's Something About Harry
Dexter finds himself with the upper hand when Doakes tracks him to his latest kill. But when Doakes reveals a secret about Harry's past, Dexter's world comes crumbling down. Meanwhile, Rita starts letting Dexter back into her life, and the Miami Metro PD starts closing in on the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Episode 11: Left Turn Ahead
As Lundy's noose starts tightening, Dexter finds himself dodging bullets both figurative and real. Dexter now must decide about not only his own fate but those of the people he cares most about. Lila attempts to blackmail Dexter into loving her and then makes a startling discovery that changes their relationship forever.

DISC FOUR

Episode 12: The British Invasion
Season Two concludes as Lundy and the FBI settle the case of the Bay Harbor Butcher once and for all. But the heat's not entirely off Dexter as his world literally becomes an inferno. Can he rise from the ashes once again?

The Fourth Season brings not just one, but two new arrivals - a baby, and The Trinity Killer! The groundbreaking and critically acclaimed original series from Showtime, starring Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall, returns on DVD with 12 thrilling and riveting episodes.

America's favorite serial killer has gone from freewheeling bachelor to responsible husband and doting dad. Maintaining an average-guy facade while satisfying his need to kill has never been easy. But now, with wife and kids in tow, Dexter's got more to lose than ever, as he gets drawn into a deadly game with a killer every bit as dangerous - and conflicted - as he is.

Episode Summary:

DISC ONE

Episode 1: Living The Dream
Dexter has always managed to get himself out of tough situations. But he suddenly finds himself in unfamiliar territory - life in suburbia. Now a husband father of three, Dexter struggles to balance his family's needs with his ongoing duties as a blood spatter analyst for Miami Metro Homicide. The exhaustion is taking its toll, and as sleepless nights start to threaten his job performance, Dexter wonders if maybe he's taken on more than he can handle. And he'll need to stay sharp - the department is busier than ever, with two new murders on their hands. The detectives, Debra included, are suprised when Special Agent Frank Lundy returns to share his theories on the case. Lundy believes they're dealing with a serial killer he's been chasing for years, whom he's dubbed the "Trinity Killer." Meanwhile, Dexter's Dark Passenger drives him to seek out a fresh victim. But with so much already on his plate, is Dexter up to the task?

Episode 2: Remains To Be Seen
The pressures of fatherhood threaten to bring Dexter's world crashing down. In his carelessness, Dexter realizes that he's misplaced crucial evidence, something that could expose his dark side to the world. But his search will have to wait, as Miami Metro's two simultaneous murder cases begin to escalate. Their top priority is to solve "The Vacation Murders," a series of robberies gone bad that threaten Miami's lucrative tourist industry. Lundy, howevers, remains convinced that the bigger problem is dealing with the Trinity Killer, who unbeknownst to them is already stalking his next victim. Dexter has to weave a web of lies to extract himself from his duties, hoping to bury his secret before someone else finds it first.

Episode 3: Blinded By the Light
It's hard enough for Dexter to take one-on-one relationships. Now he finds himself at the center of a bustling suburban community. When a local vandal begins stirring up trouble, the neighborhood becomes vigilant and wary, two things Dexter certainly doesn't need. Dexter's not the only one feeling trapped - Debra is less than thrilled when Anton announces he's taken a local job to spend more time with her. Meanwhile, the Trinity Killer dispatches his next victim. Debra becomes drawn to Lundy's theories about Trinity, while Dexter finds himself in awe of Trinity's masterful killing technique. Despite their enthusiasm, LaGuerta threatens to shut down the investigation, instead focused on bringing the Vacation Murderers to justice.

DISC TWO

Episode 4: Dex Takes A Holiday
Rita takes the kids out of town for the weekend, leaving Dexter time for some much needed R&R. And for him, that means stalking a new victim. He sets his sights on a woman accused of murdering her family. The more Dexter learns about this woman, the more he begins to question his own judgment. Can Dexter handle the pressures of family, or is he headed down a similar dark path?

Episode 5: Dirty Harry
Recent events spur Dexter into his own investigation of the Trinity Killer. His motivations are now personal, and the clock is ticking. But the closer Dexter gets, the more he realizes that Trinity is unlike any monster he's previously encountered.

Episode 6: If I Had A Hammer
Dexter knows it's only a matter of time before Miami Metro discovers the Trinity Killer's latest handiwork. He works doubly hard to stay one step ahead of their investigation. Dexter has begun to realize that the closer he gets to Trinity, the more he stands to learn from this very different beast. Trinity hides behind a well-kept mask, and getting behind that facade will require some extra prodding on Dexter's part.

Episode 7: Slack Tide
Dexter finds himself enjoying a brief moment of tranquility. He's finally managed to strike a balance between work, family... and other pursuits. But he's keenly aware that times like these aren't meant to last. Debra decides to concentrate on her pursuit of the Trinity Killer as well as delving into her father's checkered past - investigations which Dexter fears might lead her to danger - or worse, the truth.

DISC THREE

Episode 8: Road Kill
Dexter has always known that his father's Code was meant to protect him from exposure. But after commiting a serious mistake, he wonders if it could have been designed to protect him from something even more dangerous - human emotion. When he discovers that Trinity is planning an out-of-town trip, Dexter sees an opportunity to ride along and gain insight into the mind of a fellow monster. Even so, Dexter isn't prepared for the startling revelations Trinity makes along the way, revelations about his own past which only serve to convince Dexter of what he must do.

Episode 9: Hungry Man
For most people, Thanksgiving is a time for traditions and family. But for Dexter, it's an opportunity to get closer to his most dangerous adversary yet. As Dexter gains insight into Arthur's psycology by studying those closest to him, he finds himself drawn into a bizarre and twisted world. Meanwhile, Debra uses the holiday to continue her investigation into the Trinity Killer, a pursuit which threatens her brother's safety and brings to light surprising revelations about someone else close to her.

Episode 10: Lost Boys
Dexter finally believes he understands the beast known as Trinity. But when a ten-year-old boy goes missing, Dexter is forced to question everything he's learned up to this point. It's a race against the clock. And with each step forward, Dexter has to confront the real possibility that he may have more in common with Trinity than he'd like to admit. Secrets abound - from Cody, who is forced to defend one of Dexter's lies; Masuka, who can't bring himself to confess what he witnessed at Thanksgiving; and Debra, whose recent discoveries forces one of Miami's finest into making an impossible decision.

Episode 11: Hello, Dexter Morgan
Dexter's worst fears have been realized. Because of Debra's unrelenting pursuit, Miami Metro is just one step away from discovering the identity of the Trinity Killer. And Dexter can't let that happen. Arthur's arrest would not only deprive Dexter of a satisfying kill, it would also expose the secret life Dexter's been leading in pursuit of this monster. Dexter must take drastic action to buy himself time to deal with Trinity in his own fashion. Meanwhile, Rita decides to confide in Dexter, which doesn't go as well as she'd hoped. LaGuerta and Batista's breach of ethics paints them into a very tight corner. And Arthur, who still can't understand why Dexter didn't simply turn him in, begins his own bloody investigation into Kyle Butler.

DISC FOUR

Episode 12: The Getaway
As the noose tightens, Arthur warns Dexter to back off. But Dexter will do anything to stop Trinity from eluding him, even if that means putting himself on the wrong side of the law. Rita acknowledges the rocky relationship she and Dexter share, but reaffirms her support. Batista and LaGuerta face the consequences of their actions. Debra unearths a deeply-hidden truth, but not one she expected to find. And ultimately, Dexter and Arthur find themselves on a collision course, leading them to a confrontation that will change their lives forever.

My Comments:

Season 4 of this wonderful show features the excellent John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer and, thusfar, is the best of the series. The finale will leave you breathless.

Filled with the dark twists and revelations that Dexter fans relish, season eight finishes Dexter's twisted journey with a bloody amazing send-off that will haunt fans forever.

Episode Summary: (From IMDb.com)

DISC ONE

Episode 1: A BEAUTIFUL DAY
It's now 6 months since Captain LaGuerta's death. Dexter is still working as a blood spatter expert but Deb has quit the force and is now working as a private investigator. She's also been avoiding Dexter as much as possible. Angel Batista is now the squad's Lieutenant and Tom Matthews is a Deputy Chief. Dexter is worried about Deb in general but even more so after he hears she hasn't been in touch with her new boss for two weeks. Metro homicide has a new case after a body is found on the beach. The man's skull has been sliced open and a small part of his brain removed. Matthews introduces a civilian expert, Dr. Evelyn Vogel, who has volunteered her time to help with the investigation. Dexter is distrustful of her from the outset and with good reason as it turns out: she seems to know a great deal about him.

Episode 2: EVERY SILVER LINING...
Dr. Vogel shows Dexter some video she shot when his father Harry visited her for help in treating him. Dexter was only 10 years old when Harry first visited her and she takes more than just a little of the credit for what Dexter calls Harry's code: that he would only kill bad people. Vogel says she did it because she cared for him. Having saved his life, she now wants to call in a favor: she thinks the man who recently slide open someones brain and left the body on the beach is one of her former patients. She wants Dexter to do what she and Harry taught him to do.

Episode 3: WHAT'S EATING DEXTER MORGAN?
Deb is going through a particularly bad patch and there is nothing Dexter can seemingly do about it. A cop finds her behind the wheel her car, drunk. She had the good sense to pull over but ran over a parking meter in the process. She contacts Quinn who manages to get her out without being charged. Dexter blames himself but Vogel says he shouldn't take on her problems. She also wonders why Dexter didn't kill her when she found him out. Drunk again, Deb goes to the station and tells Quinn she killed LaGuerta. Meanwhile, Dexter and the police check out Lyle Sussman's cabin only to find him dead on the floor, the victim of a shotgun blast through the mouth. Dexter is wondering if he was the real killer or if someone else was manipulating him; perhaps that someone also killed him. As far as the police are concerned however, the Brain Surgeon case is officially closed. Vogel continues to receive threatening messages, this time two package with brain matter labeled his and hers. Ron Galuzzo is the next of Vogel's patients Dexter investigates. Dexter is convinced he's their man and breaks into his house. Even Dexter isn't quite prepared for what he finds.

DISC TWO

Episode 4: SCAR TISSUE
The next potential killer on Vogel's list is A.J. Yates, who was institutionalized at 15. Vogel tried to channel his hostilities much as she did with Dexter but was unable to do so. When Dexter sees a huge scar on his head, he learns from Vogel that Yates had surgery to remove a brain lesion. He breaks into Yates' house and finds something interesting in the closet. Dexter isn't alone in the house however and it looks he may be their man. He also finds something that affects his relationship with Vogel.

Episode 5: THIS LITTLE PIGGY
Dr. Vogel tells Dexter that Deb was traumatized when she tried to kill him. Now that she's hit rock bottom, things will improve. Dexter isn't too happy with either Vogel or Deb and concentrates on finding serial killer A.J. Yates. Deb and Dexter have another problem when Yates kidnaps Vogel and they set out to rescue her. At the station, the police continue investigating the death of Norma Rivera. She had sex not long before dying and they assume that whoever that was is also the man who killed her. They have a suspect, her former employer Ed Hamilton, who admits to having had sex with her but insists she was alive when he last saw her. Dexter wonders if Hamilton's son Zach might have been involved. Vince Masuka meanwhile has confirmed that Nikki is his daughter and is quite taken by the idea of fatherhood. Quinn warns him to be careful about relatives who appear out of nowhere.

Episode 6: A LITTLE REFLECTION
Dexter is convinced that Zack Hamilton killed Norma Rivera but has no proof and takes to following him whenever he can. He's more than a bit surprised to follow him to Dr. Vogel's office. She admits that Zach is a new patient but refuses to talk about his case. Batista is under pressure from Deputy Chief Tom Matthews to make a decision on who to promote to sergeant. When Quinn learns he didn't get the job, he redoubles his effort to solve the Rivera murder. With Dexter tagging along, it becomes obvious - to Dexter at least - that Zack is stalking his next victim, Sofia Fuentes a waitress at a yacht club owned by the Hamilton family. Deb's boss wants to get evidence that his sister's boyfriend is a skirt-chaser who sees other women. Deb agrees to try and lure him into a compromising situation. Dexter goes out on a date with his new neighbor Cassie. Masuka learns that his newfound daughter may have serious financial problems. Dexter gets a surprise visitor.

Episode 7: DRESS CODE
After being drugged by Hannah McKay, Dexter wakes up in an industrial area outside of town. He knows that Hannah is responsible and she's surprisingly easy to find, which makes Dexter more than just a bit suspicious. It turns out she's living on a luxury yacht with her husband Jacob. She's changed her name to Maggie and says she's quite happy. Her husband doesn't appreciate the fact that she's met with Dexter forcing her to take action and for Dexter to help her out. Meanwhile, Dexter has agreed to teach Zach Hamilton the code - to Dr. Vogel's delight - but he is proving to be a difficult student. When someone close to Dexter is killed, he's certain that Zach is the culprit. Masuka arranges a new job for his newfound daughter.

DISC THREE

Episode 8: ARE WE THERE YET?
Dexter is certain that Zach Hamilton killed his next door neighbor Cassie, who is found bludgeoned to death in her apartment. The scene suggests that the crime was impulsive rather than planned, as was the case with the death of Norma Rivera. Dexter finds Zach's blood under her fingernails but can't report it for obvious reasons. Zach is in the Keys - he's used his credit card - and Dexter and Hannah set off to find him. What he finds there impresses Dexter but also suggests that Zach isn't the killer. Meanwhile, Dexter is also helping Hannah acquire a new identity and make arrangements to leave the country. There is a strong bond between them however and Dexter begins to see a different future for himself.

Episode 9: MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC
Dexter has decided to make a new life for himself with Hannah and Harrison but not before he takes care of the Brain Surgeon. In searching Zach Hamilton's photo studio he finds a clump of hair and blood hidden under a table. When Dexter runs the sample against the DNA database he finds a familial match - to Dr. Evelyn Vogel. Somewhat incredulous at his revelation, Vogel explains that she once had two sons, the eldest of which killed the other. He was placed in a mental institution but died in fire. Dexter believes he must have survived and soon has him identified. Deb meanwhile is having second thoughts about returning to Miami Metro. She's also agreed to let Hannah, who is now being sought by a Federal Marshall, hide out at her house.

Episode 10: GOODBYE MIAMI
Having made the decision that he and Harrison will move to Argentina with Hannah, Dexter has a lot to do. He tells Deb about his plan but that doesn't go over very well. He also tells Dr, Vogel that her son, Saxon, is dangerous and she is in need of protection. She insists that he back off and let her deal with him in her own way but Dexter has no intention of leaving Miami while Saxon is alive. Saxon has problems however and he takes his mother to his killing room explaining that it's identical to the treatment room at the mental hospital she put him in. He wants his mother to help him in the same way she helped Dexter. Meanwhile, Quinn suggests to Jamie that she should at least attend a job interview for a position at a prestigious academy in Atlanta. Masuka is upset when his daughter Niki shows up high at a crime scene.

Episode 11: MONKEY IN A BOX
Still coming to terms with Dr. Vogel's death, Dexter wants to eliminate Oliver Saxon before he, Harrison and Hannah head off to South America. He also has a lot of personal items to tie up including selling his condo. Saxon shows up as a prospective buyer and offers Dexter a deal: they stop going after each other and go their own way. Dexter is non-committal and, having located his kill room, sets a trap for him. Meanwhile, U.S. Deputy Marshall Clayton is following Deb, certain that she will lead him to Hannah. Dexter is continuing to reevaluate his priorities and his final choices have an impact on several key players.

DISC FOUR

Episode 12: REMEMBER THE MONSTERS?
Dexter has to act quickly when Hannah tells him Elway is staking out the airport. He finds a way to get him out of the way but it also leads to the entire airport being closed. With a hurricane bearing down on Miami, few options are open to them. Dexter races to the hospital when he learns that Deb has been shot. She seems to be recovering and he decides to send Hannah and Harrison to Jacksonville where they could catch a flight. A return trip to the hospital leads to Saxon's arrest but also bad news about Deb. Realizing that he has, directly or indirectly, been responsible for the death of everyone he's ever loved, Dexter accepts there is only one option open to him.

My Comments:

The final season and damned if the writers didn't fuck it up. Such a disappointing end to what was once a great show.
