2004 Winterguard Captains

Sarah Brooks

School: Elkton High School
Grade: Senior
Birthday: September 21st

Sarah Brooks has been the colorguard captian for Elkton High School Marching Band for the last two years. This season will be her third indoor reign as head captain. Sarah is one of 6 Brooks children. She has 1 sister and 4 brothers, all but one are older than her. When she's not playing softball or basketball for Elkton High School, she's sitting in front of the TV watching "90210" and chowing down on a big bowl of Mac & Cheese. Sarah's music tastes are all over the place right now...She's all about her favorite song "Here without you" by 3 Doors Down, but then she busts out with Ashanti and 50 Cent in between.

Sarah's favorite winterguards are Blackwatch(NJ), Light Brigade(PA), and Pride of Cincinatti (OH). She has been doing colorguard for the past 4 years and has spun everything from a flag, sabre, and rifle to kites and surf boards. During the concert band season, Sarah plays the clarinet and has performed with Cecil County All County Band as well as Elkton Town Band. Sarah has aspirations of going to the University of Delaware next year and becoming a nurse...all the while, performing with the University of Delaware's Marching Band Colorguard and Visual Arts Production Company.

Lindsay Carbone

School: Elkton High School
Grade: Senior
Birthday: August 23rd

Lindsay Carbone is in her first season as the captain of Unity Winter Ensemble. In 2003 fall, Lindsay was a co-captain for the Elkton High School Marching Band Colorguard and worked extremely hard to help improve the movement program. For the past 2 years, Lindsay has become an increasingly noticable necessity to the program. Regardless of her lack of title, Lindsay was always there to set a good example and help other guard members reach their potential. When Lindsay is not watching "The X Files" or eating Sushi, she's reading anything she can get her hands on and writing about all kinds of stuff (especially astronomy). She's a great example for her 13-year old sister, Lauren.

Lindsay has been doing guard for 3 1/2 years - it should have been 4 (my bad Lindsay - MP). Anyway, she spins everything as well. Her favorite piece of equipment is her rifle though. She's not only a member of the visual ensemble either. Like Sarah, she plays the clarinet for the Elkton High School Concert Band. She's also been known to play a little Tenor Saxophone on occasion. Her favorite winterguards are Light Brigade(PA), Blackwatch(NJ), Alliance of Miami(FL), and Pride of Cincinatti(OH). In the next few years, Lindsay hopes to acquire a degree in Biochemistry, Journalism and German so that she can take over as the Editor in Chief of "National Geographic."

Lauren Meriano

School: McKean High School
Grade: Senior
Birthday: May 22nd

Lauren Meriano was the McKean High School Marching Band Colorguard Captain for the 2003 season. This is her second year marching for Unity Winter Ensemble where she was named as the third captain for her senior season. Lauren also comes from a big family. She is one of 7 children, and only one of them is younger than her. In fact, Lauren got involved in colorguard because her sister was also in guard. Lauren is definately the most unique of the three captains...who else would list their favorite food as green beans? I'm just not sure if anyone else on the planet would list that as their most favorite thing to put in their mouth when they're hungry. (Love you Lauren - MP)

Lauren also spins all pieces of guard equipent. She's been a rifle as well as a sabre for McKean High School, and last year she was an integral part of both weapon lines in Unity Winter Ensemble. When asked to list her best friend(s) Lauren listed several induvidual names, but definately made it a point to list "everyone in colorguard." Lauren's definately not as odd as I thought...her favorite winterguard is Light Brigade(PA). That makes me totally forget about her odd love for green beans.

In the future, Lauren would love to be a Chef and get a degree in Hotel/Restaurant Managment. She also has dreams of being the first McKean graduate to play for the WNBA - she LOVES basketball!
