This Life
Here I am again walking towards my two, and only, best friends house.
We had been best friends since I moved here when I was 12 and here we are 4 years later. They’re called Benji and Joel they’re identical twins and when I first met them it took me about a month to be able to tell them apart! It is easy now though, Benji has pink in his hair and piercings, and Joel doesn’t. You see Benji is totally punk, all three of us are, that is why there are only three of us, we are the losers at school and are always getting picked on and beat up.
Anyway, I was walking towards their house cause everyday we always walk to school together. I was thinking about them and their mum and dad since they had been fighting a lot. You see their dad has this problem, that if he has a crap day at work, he has to go get totally drunk then come home and take it out on their mum or one of them. Sometimes he doesn’t even use the excuse that he has had a bad day he just does it. I had my problems myself but they weren’t anything like that! I hadn’t spoken to my mum in about 3 or 4 years and don’t plan on speaking to her anytime soon. You see she left me and my dad to go to some other guy, so me and my dad moved here to, Waldorf. When my dad told me about moving to America I thought it would be great, I am from Scotland, hot weather, sun great! But oh no we have to move to a crap place like Waldorf I hadn’t even heard of it before and it is just as crap as Scotland!!!!
Anyway, I finally got to their house and once again heard shouting coming from it. Just then Joel came out, rubbing his cheek where a bruise was forming and mumbling something about their dad. I could tell he had been crying and it was obvious what had happened. Once again their dad had hit at least Joel if not Benji and their mum as well!
,br>Joel noticed me and tried to cover the bruise and the fact that he had been crying.
“Hey Loops what up?”
It was Benji and Joel nickname for me since they thought I was mad at times.
“Alright there?” I said as I gave a fake smile while pointing to his cheek.
“Yeah. You know the usual shitty stuff!”
Benji then came out and when I saw him I am sure my heart skipped a beat as he walked over to me brushing his hand through his brown hair with the single pink stripe through it. You see even although Benji and Joel are just really good friends of mine I have had the biggest crush ever on Benji for the past 2 years.
Joel looked at me and laughed, breaking my trance, he knew how much I liked Benji, he was the only one, who else could I tell I didn’t have any other friends did I.
“What?” I said to him pushing him over. I could feel myself going red! OMG!
“You!” Joel said pushing me back, “Could you make it anymore obvious!”
“Hey Loops, bro” Benji said as he came over, “What you pushing each other about for, don’t leave me out” he said giving me his puppy dog eyes. I hate it when he does that it just makes him look even hotter. If that is possible.
“Oh nothing! You know us!” I said quickly.
”Yeah sadly I do but tell me anyway. I want to know!”
“No you don’t bro,” Joel said “ C’mon we better get going or we will be late again.”
“Yeah ok. You sure you are alright?” I asked Joel as we began walking.
Yeah I’ll survive!”
“Can we come back to yours after school? You never know what he’s gonna be like!” Benji asked nervously.
“Yeah sure no problem. Did he do anything to you Benj?”
“No just Joel and mum this time.”
“She ok?”
“Think so. Hope so! She told us to get to school and since he had already hit Joel we thought we better go. You know what he can get like.”
“Yeah.”
Sadly I did. One night I had stayed over at their house and he came home drunk and after hitting Benji, Joel and their mum he moved on to me. We made up some excuse like I fell so my dad wouldn’t find out and ever since then they have always been able to talk to me about their dad or come over to mine if it gets too much for them at theirs.
We got to school and dumped our things in our lockers and now it was Joel’s turn to be in a daze because of someone he fancied!
I turned from speaking to Benji to see Joel starring at someone. I guessed it would be Siobhan since he totally fancied her! I was right it was her. Me and Benj started laughing and I asked Joel, after he came back to earth that is, why he didn’t just ask her out.
“I know she would say no! After all she is friends with half the people that beat me up on a day-to-day basis! Talking of which there is John now!”
John played for the football team and it was a regular thing to find Joel some place after him getting beat up by John.
Luckily this time he didn’t realise us and just carried on.
“I think that Siobhan kinda likes you Joel. She isn’t like all the other ones! Remember that time she helped you out after he beat you up and I wasn’t there!” Benji said.
“Yeah but that was once out of god knows how many times!” He said giving his barely older brother a spiteful look.
“Fine, fine! C’mon we better get to chemistry!” he said happily.
“Since when are you so desperate to get to chemistry?” I asked.
“Since I have the best lab partner!”
Me and Benji were lab partners. It was the only thing that got me through it!
“What do you want?” I asked. He must have wanted something otherwise he wouldn’t be being so nice to me.
"I kinda need to copy you notes,” he said looking at me again with his puppy dog eyes!
“Yeah ok you can,” I said as I closed my locker and began walking to chemistry with them.
“You are wrong Benj, by the way!” Joel butted in.
“How? I am never wrong!”
“Yes you are and I have the best lab partner!”
“How?”
“His lab partner is Siobhan remember!” I said nudging Benji as we walked in, Joel with the biggest grin on his face as soon as he seen Siobhan! OMG this guy is in love with someone he isn’t even going out with and hardly even knows!
