Before
you begin to experiment you need to know the basics. This will tell you
the names for some ordinary things, that have a different name in science,
and some special science words. You can link to this page by clicking on
a word in the experiment that is underlined blue.

Firstly
the most important thing is to ask for your parents permission before you
start any of these experiments and ask for help if you need it.
Definitions
Atmosphere:
the
air that surrounds the earth.
Beaker:
this is a glass used for holding liquid. Its not very good for measuring
things correctly. You could use a glass cup, or an empty glass jar (with
the label removed). (Check with your mum or dad first)
Element:
a
substance (thing or material) that can't be broken down into anything
else.
Measuring
cylinder: use this to measure liquids. It is usually a glass jar with
numbers on the side. You could use a measuring jug, or measuring cups.

Nitrogen:
a
colourless gas, with no smell. it is the most common gas in the atmosphere.
Oxygen:
a gas with no colour or smell. this is the gas that we breathe.
Periodic
Table (of the elements): a table of all the known elements that tells
us important information about the element.
Properties:
What the thing we are looking at is made of, things it can do and any other
interesting facts about it.
