Regine
Reveals Little Known Secrets About Herself

REGINE Velasquez was in unusually high spirits yesterday, gamely
revealing little known things about herself and her family as we
joined her for lunch at the Country Waffles resto in Annapolis,
Greenhills owned by Bert and Carol Nievera.
For example, do you know that Regine’s mom calls her Ate?
"Kasi panganay ako at gusto ng nanay ko na sumunod ang mga bunso sa
pagtawag sa akin ng Ate kaya maliit pa ako hanggang sa paglaki ko’y
nakasanayan nang ganoon ang tawag sa akin," the singer explained in
between bites of her caramel banana pecan waffle, which she had for
dessert.
Earlier, she had soup and chicken for her main course which she
continuously seasoned with salt as she kept up with our animated
conversation.
"Mahilig kasi ako sa maalat," she said with a soft chuckle.
Regine loves to be surprised.
"Kung magde-date ako, ayoko ng mga ordinaryong ginagawa ng mga
nagde-date na pupunta sa isang restaurant at magdi-dinner. I don’t
go for fine dining and candlelight. Gusto ko iyong sinosorpresa ako,
iyong kakaiba. Like my brother na nag-celebrate ng anniversary nila
course. At first, madilim pa sa golf course kaya nagtataka iyong
girlfriend niya bakit sila doon nagpunta. Tapos, nagulat na lang
siya ng biglang nagkailaw at naroon iyong table under the tent at
may waiter doon. I thought that was very creative and very sweet,"
the singer enthused.
Regine enjoys riding the roller coaster. "Naku, gusto ko iyon,
tuwang-tuwa akong sumasakay sa roller coaster hanggang sa
magkasuka-suka na ako at kulay asul na sa kababaligtad," she averred
with girlish laughter.
Like any typical woman, the actress/singer is on a high whenever she
goes shopping. Unlike most females, though, she won’t spend time
going around the mall, comparing prices, haggling and looking for
the best bargain.
"Usually I read fashion magazines. Pag may nakikita akong gusto ko,
hahanapin ko iyon. Pag nahanap ko na, okey na ako. Titignan ko lang
iyong type ko. Halimbawa, may sapatos akong nagustuhan. Ipahahanap
sapatos," she confessed.
If she had her way right now, she’d like to take time out from her
hectic sked and smell the flowers, so to speak.
"What’s the point of doing what you’re doing if you’re stressed and
not having fun?" she opined.
"Ako kasi, kahit anong ginagawa ko I make sure that I’m having fun,
that I like what I’m doing. Pag sobra akong napapagod, hindi ko
nae-enjoy ang ginagawa ko that’s why I’d like to stop for a while
and rest.
I want to go to Spain, stay in a pension house and walk through the
small city streets," Regine candidly revealed.
"I have already asked permission from my mom and dad. I’m sure
they’ll be worried but it’s okey with them kasi naman ever since
I’ve been travelling, kasama ko na sila. It’s either my mom or my
dad who accompanies me on my trips, although mas madalas kong
My dad is conservative too but he’s more
open minded and understanding," she added.
Aside from her concert with Martin Nievera set for May 2 at the
Waterfront Hotel Cebu City and on May 9 and 10 at the Araneta
Coliseum in Quezon City, soon Regine will be busy promoting her
forthcoming romantic comedy Pangarap Kong Ibigin Ka wherein she is
paired with Christopher de Leon for the second time. Their first
movie together was Wanted: Perfect Mother.
Pangarap Kong Ibigin Ka boasts of a themesong composed by Regine’s
very good friend Ogie Alcasid. Regine performs the song solo and as
a duet with Ogie in the soundtrack album. Aside from the themesong,
the soundtrack also features Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, an old
favorite popularized by Frankie Valli and the Lettermen more than 20
years ago. It is used in the movie to express the actress’ deep love
for the initially oblivious Christopher. Much to her delight, later
he admits to feeling the same way and bursts into his own rendition
of the same song.
Unknown to many, Boyet is a competent singer whose music career was
sidetracked by his acting profession. In the movie, he gets a chance
to sing again with his own recording of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.
Now available nationwide on tapes and CDs, the soundtrack album also
includes Regine’s version of the Pinoy rock favorites
Hinahanap-hanap Kita by the Rivermaya and Harana by Parokya ni
Edgar. The upcoming Tribe of Levi joins the romantic adventure with
the song Kaligayahan Natin and Zebedee Zuñiga of the group Opera
duets with Regine in All of My Life.
Together with Boyet and Regine in the movie Pangarap Kong Ibigin Ka
directed by Louie Ignacio for Viva Films are Dingdong Dantes, John
Lapuz, Lara Fabregas, William Martinez, Rosemarie Gil and Gladys
Guevarra.
