June News

6.17.03
Hey. I'm just getting started on this page, and relearning all the html and stuff, so please bear with me. As far as news about the band, we've had a lot going on lately. As many of you know, we recently released our first recording, a 5-song EP entitled "So Pretty In Pieces," and it has sold well. We've "gotten rid of" ( I use that term because we've given some away) around 70 copies already. E-mail me at erikblock@hotmail.com or sign the guestbook (once I get one up) if you're interested in purchasing a copy. They are only $2, so you can't really go wrong. In other news, we placed 3rd at Q98's 1st Annual Rock n Roll Super Bowl last weekend, which we were/are very excited about. We received a $200 cash prize, which we will soon be putting toward some Messing With Texas merchandise--shirts, buttons, stickers and the like. We played a show at Kirby's last Saturday which also went pretty well. That's about it for now. Thanks for checking the site and check back often.

Got a bunch more stuff done on the site today. I kind of dig the look of it, even though it does look like it was designed by a 10 year old compared to a lot of other band's websites. Oh well. We have cool retro '50s pictures. We may be playing a show on July 19 at Coach's with "If Looks Could Kill." If/when it is confirmed, I'll post it on the "shows" page. I sent out a bunch of our demos to record labels yesterday. I'm so nerdy. Take it easy.

Got the "lyrics" and "merch" pages up. Don't actually have any lyrics on the page yet (I gotta get 'em from Jon), and no merch besides the CD (because we don't have any merch yet). Since we won that $200 at the Rock n Roll Super Bowl, we have money for merch, we just need to find good places to order from and get our designs nailed down. Hopefully we'll have that stuff taken care of in the very near future. I know I sound like a broken record, but check back.....

Hey, all. Got the bio page up today. I also separated the "shows" section into "upcoming shows" and "past shows" Y' know, this sure isn't the prettiest website in the world, but I'll be damned if it isn't pretty close to the most user-friendly. It kind of has to be, simply because I'm pretty computer stupid and don't really know the first thing about building a website. Necessity is the mother of invention, I guess. Thanks to everyone who has checked out the site. Keep checking back--I've been making changes pretty much every day. I talked with Dan from "Lost For Cause" last nite and we made plans to get some shows going together, as both of our bands seem to be in a bit of a slump, having no performances booked any time in the next few weeks. Justin from "If Looks Could Kill" has apparently asked us to play a show at the Harwood Hideout on July 21st. I'll get the info up on the shows page as soon as I know for sure if we're playing. Brian Johnson ("ILCK" drummer) asked us to play in Duluth this Saturday, June 21st, but unfortunately we will be unable to play. Oh, well...

I got most of the lyrics typed on the site today, so check out the lyrics page if you haven't already. I also figured out which companies we are going through for t-shirts and buttons and I already ordered stickers a couple days ago. I should be putting the orders through for the t-shirts and buttons within the next few days, so "Messing With Texas" will soon have the all-important "merch table" at shows. Should be pretty exciting. We'd also like to get some other type of merchandise besides the "big 3" (shirts, stickers, buttons). I was thinking maybe beer coozies (or whatever you call them) would be cool. If you have any ideas, by all means, sign the guestbook and let us know. That's all for now.

Hey, everybody. Got everything nailed down for the t-shirt and button orders, which I will be sending out on Monday. Also, as you probably already noticed, we've done some major overhauling on the site today. So far we really like the new look, and we hope you agree. Got the bomb logo on the site now so that the buttons will make sense when we get them, so that's good, too. A number of area labels (including Realisticom Records and Bigmouth Records) have expressed interest in "working with us," whether that be including us on upcoming comps or putting out our upcoming full-length album and helping us with distro and the like. So we're excited about that. Don't forget to listen to the Boneyard tomorrow (Sunday) night from 8 - 10 pm on 104.7 FM The Dam! MWT will be live in studio.

Everything went well on the Boneyard last nite. We gave away a bunch of CDs (thanks to everyone who called in--especially Jeff), talked about the website, talked about the upcoming merch (I just dropped the orders off at the post office not one hour ago), talked about our (one and only) upcoming show (anyone want us to play? Please?)....and took part in the type of witty banter that you would expect from a band on a radio show, I guess. We also drank a lot of whiskey, which helped the whole situation in a lot of ways, I think. Make sure to pick up next week's issue of the High Plains Reader, as it will feature a story on Messing With Texas. And, as always, keep listening to the Boneyard on Sunday nites from 8 - 10 pm on 104.7 FM.

Some good news! Got another show booked--see the "shows" page for info. Also, we got our first mail order through the site. I sent out a CD today. Woo hoo. We are now officially web entrepreneurs (I didn't even look up how to spell that, and I think I got it right). Also, we are almost out of our second batch of 50 CDs. Those of you who are especially adept mathematicians have already figured out that that would mean that we have gotten rid of nearly 100 of them. Time to make more, I guess. Oh, well...

Got a couple more shows booked and up on the shows section. Don't have much info on them yet, but I was excited, so I put them up anyway. Also, I got more CDs made today (about 50) and dropped some off at Cheapo in Moorhead, so you can pick them up there, and also give them a listen in one of the listening stations in the "local" section. The next batch of CDs (assuming we need to make more--i hope we do) will quite likely have actual printing on them instead of just magic marker, so that's something to look forward to, I guess. We are currently looking into recruiting a second guitar player, and our main (only) prospect will be coming up to "try out" (the quotation marks are necessary because he isn't really trying out per se--he's already in the band if he wants to be) in the next few weekends (he lives out of town) and the idea is that we are trying to get him to move here and be in our band. So that's exciting too. That's all for now. Have fun. Go to a show. Or whatever.

Alright. We have a problem. It appears that lots of people are visiting the site, but no one is signing the guestbook. I guess we'll have to have a giveaway. Here's the deal: When you visit the site, take a look at the counter at the bottom of the screen. Then, sign the guestbook, and make sure to include what number visitor you were. Please only do this once--it's unfair to enter multiple times. Then, what we will do is.....when we get all of our merchandise--shirts, button, and the like--we will pick a random number and whoever was that number (or closest) will win the merchandise. That's easy enough, huh? So please--sign the guestbook. We want to know who you are and how you got here. And we want you to win free stuff. In actual news, we are now up at mp3.com so please go to their site, search "Messing With Texas" and check out a couple of the tracks. Then, if you like what you hear, order the CD off the site. Or pick it up at Cheapo for only $2.99! What a steal!
