Macrophage Bio
Some people listen to music because it’s something to do or just because they like the sound of it and in todays music climate, especially in metal it’s become something of a trend. Yet there are still a few who need it, who crave the intensity the drive and out right emotion of the music. This is musical therapy.

Macrophage was formed in the Metro-Detroit area in 2001, a line up that would eventually become Eric Morris on guitar, Ryan Szewczyk on bass, Mike Cassidie on drums and the dual vocals of Brain Lloyd and Matt Szewczyk. “This music is like bleeding on stage for all of us” sais Brian Lloyd the bands newest member. “I joined this band and was completely blown away, it’s like nothing out there, completely original.

With musical influences ranging from the legendary Primus, Tool and Faith No More to lesser known bands like Opeth, Lamb of God and Mudvayne, “and that’s just the metal influences” sais bassist Ryan Szewczyk “were also heavily influenced by Ween, Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastouris and The Misfits”. “Mike’s almost a full on jazz drummer and Eric is one of the best guitarists I’ve ever heard” sais Brian “we couldn’t be more fortunate to have such a talented line up”.

Macrophage began playing shows early, every local club that would have them. Playing with other metal bands or with such bogus acts as Ayntelin. Showing there support for the local scene by befriending the acts they were playing with. Macrophage’s first effort the E.P. “the blood off my hands” is a 3 song delve into the minds of singers Brian Lloyd and Matt Szewczyk where murder and depravity become and emotional escape from the reality of life.”I think that our music is very positive because the things that we can’t do are show in it, when you want to strangle someone who really fucked you over and know you can’t that’s where our music steps in”.

“Breathe” the first single on “the blood off my hands” is a head first dive into just that idea with murderous guitar riffs and driving drum lines, the song also lends itself a softer side where the emotion seams to just drip from the disk. “Cartoon Blood” a more fun opus that begins with one of the most catchy basslines in recent memory and exploring a little more of Macrophage’s funk, punk and jazz influences without a drop of heaviness lost. Lyricly it explores the dream state and the inability wake from it while “in the dark” explores the harshness of the inner child and being trapped in a place that you will never find your way out.

Macrophage is a band with a mission, to change the state of music forever. “music has become so commonplace it’s like people don’t care what they put in there ears anymore, were here to change all that”.
