A Dozen Voting Tips for Lisa Fans!
(Print this out to refer to on Tuesday night!)
1. Don’t split your vote! (Vote-splitting is alternating your voting between more than one person.) Especially for the Wild Card round. You can only vote one person through for this round—it would be ridiculous to vote for more than one person. If you do this, you are more likely to give the edge to an entirely different singer.
2. Don’t EVER assume Lisa will make it though and you don’t need to vote. This is the precise reason she did not advance in Group 2. In previous seasons, it was all too common for a contestant to get voted off after their strongest performance, when their fanbase relaxed. So no matter what the judges say, she is not safe unless we vote for her nonstop.
3. Vote as long as you can—the full 2 hours if possible. Lines sometimes open in the last few minutes of the show, so start then to get some extra votes in. You’re most likely to get busy signals during the first half hour, but you can still get through and it makes a difference. If for some reason you absolutely cannot vote for 2 hours, make sure to put the extra effort into the 2nd hour, when the lines will be more open and you can get more votes in.
4. Hang up as soon as you hear the “thank you” message and redial. You don’t need to listen to the whole recording for your vote to count.
5. Plan ahead. Decide on which phone in your house is easiest to use and let your housemates know you’ll be using it for the full 2 hours. Find a comfortable spot to do your voting, and have snacks and something to drink to get you through. Go to the bathroom before the lines open and have something to do during the two hours that will take your mind off voting. (Just make sure it isn’t something that requires use of your hands!)
6. Get into a rhythm. Dial. Wait for message. Hang up and give the phone a second to disconnect. Redial. Repeat. Of course always make sure you are dialing Lisa’s number!
7. Keep voting. If you’re getting busy signals, don’t let it frustrate you. It just means that lots of people are voting for Lisa. But don’t assume that means she is safe—just keep voting no matter what. The lines are usually only busy for the first half hour of voting.
8. Don’t lose hope! If you think you’re getting through entirely too easily, don’t assume that means that nobody is voting for Lisa and you should just give up. The lines are set up for the different time zones, so maybe Lisa isn’t so popular where you are, but her lines are backed up elsewhere. Use the oportunity to rack up even more votes.
9. Use multiple lines if you can. If it won’t cost you a fortune, you can use your home landline as well as a cellular for calling or texting.
10. Talk to your friends and family about Lisa. Encourage them to vote for Lisa also. Every single vote really helps!
11. If you need motivation: Listen to some sound files of Lisa singing. Remember how sad she looked when she was passed over in Group 2. She really deserves this. Remember how outraged and shocked you were when Matt and Camile moved on. If you don’t vote for her, she could leave the next day and you won’t be seeing her on the show again. It’s just 2 hours of your time, and the failure to use it could mean all sorts of guilt the next day when she is passed over for less talented singers whose fans were more diligent.
12. Finally, find some way to make voting as fun as possible. Invite friends over so you can watch the show together and take turns with the phones. Watch a good movie (most of them are around 2 hours!) to pass the time. If you’re using a cordless, stretch your legs. Try to make it as pleasant an experience as possible. Experiment with different phones to see which is easiest. If you are using a cordless, stretch your legs. Eat some ice cream. Pop some popcorn. Just do something to take your mind off the phone at your ear. Remember, it’s only a couple of hours once a week and then you get to relax and look forward to tomorrow’s results night. After it’s over with—reward yourself!
