“I just want my music to do what my influence’s music did for me: help me through all the hard times and give me hope…” says Dane Schmidt of …and then I turned seven…

Coming from Duluth, MN, Dane Schmidt brings to you, powerful, emotional music with his project, …and then I turned seven… Starting playing drums at the age of three, Dane was a natural born musician. With drummers being hard to find, he was always in some kind of band whether it be punk, rock, funk, or even jazz. In November of 2002, Dane sat down with his brother Jordan and started writing songs for an un-named band they wanted to start. The group debuted in March of 2003 with about 6 originals at a small coffee shop in Duluth. Their name: …and then I turned seven… The reaction from the crowd was unbelievable so Dane kept writing more songs to give the group more variety. In July of 2003, Dane played a solo show to a crowd at a local pool hall. People really enjoyed the music so Dane went into the studio to record his first solo album under the name …and then I turned seven… After a month, he came out with what is now known at “Broken Summer”.

After moving up to Moorhead, MN to go to school, Dane decided to play at an event Moorhead State University was having called the Underground Unplugged. It was an event for acoustic artists. After playing, the reaction from the crowd gave Dane the motivation he needed for continuing with …and then I turned seven…
