A Different Drum (ADDCD1163)
Release Date: May 6, 2003
Neuropa's "Every Second" is an upbeat synthpop track; according to the band, the song is about "living for the moment, the importance of giving something up, and being lost in a world where we are the slaves and time is the master." This idea is presented with the lines, "Every second comes too late, every minute of every hour, we live these moments frame by frame."
I enjoyed the Single Mix and the Extended version. The Stop The Clock Mix is my next favorite mix; the mix incorporates additional percussion and synth sounds, and ups the tempo of the song a little bit. This mix takes the original version of the song and adds new elements that help bring a fresh sound to the song.
My least favorite mix is Pacific Mile's French Diva Mix; however, this may be due to the fact that it is a very club-oriented mix, and I tend to prefer mixes that I can just sit down and listen to. This mix incorporates a heavy bassline and effects on the vocals (and only some of the vocals from the original track are used), and many of the original synth sounds have been removed. This mix accomplishes its task of making the song more "club friendly," but to me, it's not an enjoyable listen outside of a dance club.
The Chemical Beats Mix basically seems to take the original mix and adds in some additional elements. To me, a bassline that was added to the beginning of the mix (and is also used near the end) sounds a little too reminiscent of the bassline from New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle."
This is an enhanced CD single, and features the video of, lyrics for, and the story behind "Every Second." There's also information about and contact information for the remixers, a discography of the band's other releases, a little bio about A Different Drum, and links to the website and e-mail address for the band.
Overall, this is a decent single, and is worth picking up if you are a fan of Neuropa, or simply like the song "Every Second."
