Welcome to this page which I have created for nostalgic reasons. These are in a way the players who influenced me to keep at DMC. They have inspired me or impressed me in some way. I've looked up to them. Almost all of the listed players were from the very early days of DMC when I was a beginner, that is where I got most of my inspirations.
WangMauler ([CF], <[187]>)
I started playing DMC october 2001. This guy was not only going 75-0 in ffa maps before I had even heard of DMC, but his movement skills were also excellent. I have vivid memories of just being totally owned in the early days of my DMC plays, and watching him bounce away at speed from my corpse. This guy was WAY ahead of his time, there was no doubt he had the best movement of anyone in DMC for a long time. He was the creator of the standard DMC bunnyhop +/- jump +/- jump fix. He gave me loads of useful tips and information for example command line parameters such as "-noforcemspd 1". He was also the best all round player in my opinion when I started playing. Pink Robot bunny.
Flipper
Very nice chap who ran the first european DMC server (as far as I know since I started DMC 4-5 months or so after release). He was a good player I saw demos of him duelling Menthos (dm4), Mass-reaction (dm4)and Wooch (dm2). I also saw demos of him pulling off 'crazy' (simple) strafe jumps which at the time were good, dispite the fact that one player called WangMauler surpassed this level and was in fact utilizing extremely advanced movement that blew Flippers moves away. He had the same stat system that dmc-cental uses for his server, which was extremely cool and he dominated the top positions with several others included in this article. Orange gordon (perhaps a custom that I didn't have)
Mr J
I didn't see him much in the early days, just now and again. The times I did see him though, he was owning full servers. One memorable event was I joined e1m2 and both Mr J (who I never heard of at that time) and Flipper were in the server which was full. Mr J won e1m2 and then won the next map too dm6, getting over 100 frags both maps and beating Flipper which amazed me. When I properly met him years later in matchmod he turned out to be a great bloke really friendly and very modest.
[8th]
The biggest good clan when I started DMC. I was owned and inspired by Flip^side, Menthos, Mass-reaction(:-:), FienD and ChurchY, all helmet gordons I think. Apparently South was in [8th] at this time, although I definately never saw him, and I know for a fact he wasn't listed on Flippers server stats, since I used to check regularly (including 8th player searches).
Paul.mu
A very good non fancy all annihilation player who survived off strategy and aim, and did so very effectively. His movement was under average though. No doubt an intelligent player. Owned me everytime I played him but dispite this used to compliment my play :) Red Robot
Airwalk (aka Presizion, CHiNX) - a QW / HLDM player who owned me to frustration on e1m2. It wasn't til years later that I found out that he was the half-life player CHiNX, who was famous in the game for being one of the best players in the beginning, who I had never played with but heard of through reputation. I eventually got to play him in half-life years later, where we talked about DMC. Funny enough he told me I must have sucked back then if I lost to him... hahah, looking back I sure was worse than I thought I was, with a lot to learn :) Gman.
StickyBUD
This guy I remember from the early days and he was so good that I wished that I had his skills. I remember playing with him only a few months before he dissapeared and I never saw anything from him again. He used the barney model with green and cyan colours.
Hikaru (OLATHECOLA) - helmet
Neekerijoukkue (GunnaR) - gman
Junti
Kunkku
RuMo* - orange gordon
Spiff - recon
Players who were very good in the very early days. Honoury mention going to Spiff, a noticably high skilled player who is probably still around somewhere. I have a feeling Junti and Kunkku were fake nicks from other players, since I saw them only for 1 game, yet that was enough for me to remember their nick 4 years later, THATS how well they played.
Cromag (<[187]>, OG)
This guy was real good back in the pre dmc-central days. 187 was quite big and we had organised FFA games, 187 members only. Cromag would always come out on top :)
DD
His dm4 was really nice.. no, nice is not the word. His dm4 was scarey.
Marduk ([CF])
It is debated that this player was the best DMC player / dueller in the world when he played, and this is a strong argument. This guy owned hard and I can tell this with truth from first hand experience. There were many good players though, but there is evidence to show he was one of the best if not THE best. Read what I say about WangMauler in the first mention, read it? Good. Now read this - One time me and WangMauler played against Marduk on dm4 2v1. I think I had been playing DMC for about a year when this took place, and while I cannot recall how I used to play back then, I can recall how good WangMauler was. Everyone knows how good WangMauler was. So you can see the achievement when the score turned out roughly like this (from memory)-
Marduk 76-6
------
Wangmauler 3-34
Tayste 3-42
I might also mention that he won a 1on1 competition held sometime, beating Paul.mu (who was known for being strong in duels) in the finals and allegedly driving paul.mu to leave DMC. Perhaps 'beating' was not the right word.. SLAUGHTER is more appropriate as it was a completely one sided duel in favor of Marduk. Whether this is the real reason Paul.mu left I do not know for sure, but what I do know is that Paul wrote commentary for each game as they were played but left DMC for good instantly after losing the finals. So there is little doubt that Marduk was a very strong player, having proved himself to the whole community, and being a huge inspiration to me. He was orangy / red toned robot.
Uncle ([FD], [pFc])
I am including Uncle for his simply badass ability to duel on ztndm3. Uncle did not own me in the early days, didn't awe me when I was new... he wasn't playing back then. But after I take a break I come back and Uncle is rampaging the servers. However it is not until I play him on ztndm3 in a duel that I am inspired. He beat me 35-4 or something like that, he was the first guy (of many, just that he was the first) to own me so badly in a duel and it is what made me want to put much more practice into duel :)
That is all for now... I may update as my memory returns to me, or I get inspired once again
