The Story So Far...

 

Early days

Joe and Dan form part of their first band called Wind Bubble, which featured Joe on the drums! There first gig at a pub outside of Eastbourne was deemed 'wet Fart' by the Landlord!

Joe moved onto play the keyboard for acid Jazz band Radio Jim, fellows band members included Matt Knight and Rob Green.

 

1997

Joe, Dan, Matt and Rob meet in Sullivan's Pub, Eastbourne, shortly after the demise of Radio Jim and formed Toploader that night!

 

Julian joins Toploader after another guitarist leaves for college. The final line-up is formed!

 

1998

March- S2 sign Toploader!! A day that Joe spent throwing up in the toilets due to a hangover and nerves!

Toploader record their first Cd, a album sampler consisting of four tracks; High Flying Bird, Summer Cycle, Only For A While and Sub Love (Demo Version) Just 800 were pressed!

1999

After seeing them play Paul Weller asks them to support him on his '99 tour.

10th May - Limited edition single 'Achilles Heel' released. Chris Evans loves it and so invites them to play on TFI Friday, there television debut!
Incessant touring including, The Kosovo Benifit Gig alongside Travis and The Stereophonics, Glastonbury and The Reading Festival.

23rd August - 'Let The People Know' single is released

 

2000

 

21st February - 'Dancing In The Moonlight' single is released, it remains in the top 40 for a month.
26th February - Toploader play at the launch party for The Brit Awards, and find out that they have been nominated for four Brit Awards; Best British Band, Best Newcomer, Best British Single for 'Dancing In The Moonlight', and Best British Video for 'Dancing In The Moonlight'.

1st May - 'Achilles Heel' single is fully released, goes straight into the charts at No:8!!
22nd May - 'Onka's Big Moka' Toploader's debut album is released, climbs to No:5, and reaches Gold Status after just two weeks!

More touring with Paul Weller over the summertime, play at venues including: The Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury, T In The park and several European Festivals.
The lads support Bon Jovi and play to half a million in packed out stadiums, they become the last British band to play at Wembley!

21st August - 'Just Hold On' is released.
26th September - The Lads headline along side Reef at a one off gig at the millennium dome

The lads kick off their first major tour of the UK, all venues completely sell out!
13th November - 'Dancing In The Moonlight' is re-released, stays in the charts for four months!!

Toploader win Best Pop Artist's Website Award from the first ever UK Online Music Awards.
Sign a lucrative deal with Sainsbury's, creating even more exposure for 'Dancing In The Moonlight', the lads now have a huge hit on their hands!

 

2001

February - Robbie Williams personally asks the Loader if they would support him on his European tour, which they do!

9th April - 'Only for a while' is released.

 

 

2002

Still ever popular 'Dancing In The Moonlight' is far from forgotten more than a year after it's release, Darius 'Can you feel the love' Danesh cover's the song on Pop Idol, unfortunately this leads to his departure from the show!

Late February the lads fly over to Los Angeles, California to begin recording their second album at The Cello Studios, in the same room the beach boys recorded 'Pet Sounds'.
All is quiet on the Loader front until June when news starts to surface about a new single called 'Time Of My Life' which is to be released on July 29th.

Toploader Host three exclusive gigs in Hotels in Glasgow, Manchester and London to preview their second album 'At The Magic Hotel', rumoured to be named after the Hotel the Lads stayed in whilst recording the album.
The release dates for the single and album are changed, the single to be released on 5th August and the album on 19th August.

Toploader announce a huge 43 date UK tour.
