Why the number 1 in the band: "Well it works for me because it's kind of a pivotal thing for being in the bands like have to lay all the drums and guitar work. I'm always the person that has to lay something down or be the cement of the band. That's where the 1 thing came from for me."
His mask (Japanese kabuki mask ): "I didn't want to be just held down by one thing, I wanted to keep the whole thing like all options open. Like it's not something you can be held down to. It can be beautiful, it can be ugly, it can be disgusting, it can be all those things. Right now it's got like weird looking scars on it and shit. I'm marketing it up a lot different so it doesn't necessarily look the same. It's cool man I just want people to get out of it what they want."
How the mask came to be: "My mom had that type of mask and one time when I came home really late, she was waiting for me. She came around the corner in the mask on and this robe - it scared the living fuck out of me."
Some Injuries: Had cut his leg open on the Coal Chamber tour. He stuck drum stuff way up in his leg.
Favorite Movie: Phantasm
Hobbies: "It is pretty much covered by music 24/7. Aside from that, maybe video games, sleeping and sex"

Joey worked as a night manager at a Sinclair gas station from '95 - '97.
"That's where most of Slipknot was conceives, I'd get off band practice at about ten, and I'd bring a radio and TC and fucking crank metal. Shawn would come down at about 11:30, and we'd start plotting things out. He'd split at about five in the morning, and we'd have all these ideas. That's how we did it. Until i got fired. My bosses were cool, but I was scaring the customers away. We literally had people pull up, see me and Shawn sitting in the window, floor it out of there and go to the Amoco across the street."

When Ross Robinson first discovered Slipknot and went to see them practice, and Joey was counting off the first song. He counted to 3 and dropped the drumstick.
