drx ~ things to come

THINGS TO COME - This 3-song EP is a sneak peek @ some of the new material for the upcoming new album, STRUGGLE. Here, the docta rock's ya w/ some interesting choice cuts in more of a raw fashion. Almost in a more "polished demo" quality. But yet still rough enuff to get the job done. Not as well produced as DR . X , but some good catchy tracks, nonetheless. The versions featured on the new album will be much more in depth but this release gives the listener something to chew on until STRUGGLE.

The overall look of this mini-album is clean and simple. Using black and white, or more grayscale actually, the cover states the obvious; this is an EP. Using the capabilities of Adobe Photoshop, the layering of images and texture create almost a demo type of feel. As you look into the image a bit more, you realize that it's a close up of the bridge on a guitar. Gets the point across no less! They've also simplified the DR . X logo to a lower case font. The drawback to that is they seem to have forgotten the period between the R and X, which makes the band's name as DRX and not DR. X. The back of the cover has some good shots of the band live w/ Ken Coggeshall /Vocals; Bill Staudt /Bass; new guitarist, Tom Reade and Steve Weller on drums.

The opener, "I'm Fine", is a good solid rocker in the traditional DR. X vein. "Think", starts off in the same way w/ a modern hardcore groove to it. The quick tongued, rap-y style vocal by Coggeshall draws some influences from RATM's de la Rocha. "So What Do You Think About That...bitch?!?!?!?!"

The disc closes w/ "Good Girl", which seems a little influenced by Type O Negative. A solid rhythm throughout and a bit of a dark song lyrically.

Recorded at Project X Studio, "I'm Fine"; "Think", and "Good Girl" leaves you with a serious case of blue balls until the new album. Is there a doctor in the house? Released Oct 1999. Very limited quantities!
