DAY 7

Shenanigans

I was thinking of mentioning a few fantasy camp "moments" but I will leave those to be told by word of mouth. Not knowing until you're there on some things made camp even better.

The orange ball:

Bus to West Palm Beach airport

We had some extra time to sleep in, and then the hotel provided some breakfast before we left. I got on Ed's bus around 9:30. He was always greeting everyone on and off the bus all week. Getting off the bus I shook his hand and wished him well. Camp was now over, it's time for the long trip home. Next year I hope to improve and do a little better physically, spend more time with the pros, maybe pad my career stats, and get some more baseball cards signed for my collection.

Flight Home

Once we got to the West Palm Beach Airport everyone checked in with their flights. I breezed though security again to join the inner circle of air travel. TSA must not have in their files how many years I listened to Rush in the mornings at work or else I'd have gotten the special pat down. We hung around for a bit while the New York flight boarded. Shane from Canada and I were chatting with one of the three guys I'd met from California when Dwight Gooden walked up and said hello and shook our hands, chatting briefly. That was pretty cool, we were noticing that no one in the airport seemed to know who he was except us campers.

I had some time before my flight was scheduled to leave, Jay and I, the other two Californians in camp, had the same flight from West Palm Beach to Atlanta. We went to an airport Chili's and had a burger for lunch. He had a long layover in Atlanta before going straight to SFO. I had only 40 minutes between flights in Atlanta, heading to LA before the last leg to San Jose. I left West Palm Beach airport at 1:30pm eastern time. Every flight home had children sitting close by. I had to keep reminding myself that I love kids. I ended my trip in San Jose around 9:20pm west coast time. My legs were very tired of being squished under airplane seats.

Another new friend Noah

Welcome Home

I have to thank all the great fellow campers I met during my week in Florida:
Phil, Mark, Jay, Noah, Matt & family, Greg, Shane, Michael, Michael (#2), Bob, Glenn, Chris, Joe, Jan, Stan, James, Howard, Jerry, & Little Piggy the Metalhead.
I may have missed one and I'm sorry if I did. See you at the reunion in August at Citi. And there's always next year!

My wife met me at the San Jose airport at 9:30pm. We finished the weekend at our favorite getaway in Half Moon Bay just south of San Francisco. Just before our dinner reservations at the restaurant next door, I was surprised by a knock at the door on Sunday. I found this little girl outside our room. According to her mom she talked all week about how Grandpa Skid was on an airplane to play baseball.

After a few days at home, the euphoria subsided and I settled into my normal routine. It took me a week to finish this blog. Then I got pictures from camp and added them on Feb. 10th. I miss camp a lot, it was such fun. I met so many people, it was great. I can't wait until the reunion in Aug. at Citi Field. And then there is next year!
