Albuquerque has caught the freeway art bug - in spades - so metal sculptures and earth-toned concrete abound on the highway through the city and burbs. More tax dollars at work - in places it seems like overkill - but on the other hand, it sure beats graffiti. We cruised the fast lane through the city and started the climb up the other side. Most of the way up, after cresting a rise, we saw some new construction and big signs advertising a new casino/hotel complex, the Route 66 Casino Resort. There was gas, which we needed, but better yet a newly built diner. The hotel wasn’t yet open but the other facilities were, so we took the exit and after crawling past the flagger and the heavy equipment we parked next to the Roadrunner Diner.
