"Weezer to Embark on First Tour in Three Years" from Rolling Stone 8.4.00

Weezer look like they're finally ready to deliver on their long-anticipated third album, which was originally slated to come out on Geffen last year. After road-testing songs on the Warped Tour and at West Coast gigs, the band has announced an East Coast and Midwest tour, kicking off Aug. 23 in New York.

Frontman Rivers Cuomo explained to RollingStone.com earlier this year why the band's follow-up to 1996's Pinkerton was so long in the coming -- blaming the wait on orthodontia, of all things. "I've got the accelerated program with high-tension wires," Cuomo said in February. "It hurts twice as much, but it's worth it. But it makes it tough to sing. I can't get out certain words clearly, like 'free.' And who wants to be on MTV with braces?"

Six months later, the braces are off and the band is prepping songs for a demo CD to send to potential producers. Some of the new song titles include "Mad Cow," "Modern Dukes," "Superstar," "Slob," "Every Night" and "Torture." The band is asking fans, after hearing the new material live, to vote on these songs and ten others on www.weezer.net to help them narrow down the tracks on the demo CD to a suitable four.
