The Days of the Accordion - Smederevo 2003

THE RULES OF THE COMPETITION

Article 1

The music school "Kosta Manojlovic" Smederevo is organizing the competition of soloists, chamber music groups and the accordion orchestras from May 19th to 25th 2003, under the auspices of the Smederevo township assembly within the manifestation "The Days of the Accordion" - Smederevo 2003.

Article 2

The competition is opened for all the participants from the country and abroad and will be held under the following categories for soloists:

Category baby (participants born in 1994 and younger)

Category A (participants born in 1992 and younger)

Category B (participants born in 1990 and younger)

Category C (participants born in 1988 and younger)

Category D (participants born in 1986 and younger)

Category E (participants born in 1984 and younger)

Category F (participants born in 1983 and older)

Article 3

The paricipants of competition are obliged to perform a programme at the competition consisting of two compositions of which one must be originally written for the accordion and with the restricted total duration:

For category baby until 5 minutes

For category A until 5 minutes

For category B until 7 minutes

For category C until 10 minutes

For category D until 15 minutes

For category E until 20 minutes

For category F until 20 minutes

The soloists perform their programme by heart. More than two compositions cannot be performed. The movements of the cyclic compositions can be performed individually.

Atricle 4

More than nine perfomers cannot take party in the chamber music orchestras. At least one instrument which is not the accordion must be represented in the orchestra. The number of the performed compositions is not restricted, but the time of the performance is. The chamber music orchestras perform in three categories:

Category G lower music school until 10 minutes

Category H secondary music school until 15 minutes

Category I students until 20 minutes

It is not obligatory for the chamber music orchestras to perform the compositions by heart.

Article 5

The accordion orchestras perform in two categories:

Category J lower music school until 15 minutes

Category K secondary music school and older until 20 minutes.

The number of the performed compositions is not restricted.

Article 6

The applicants will perform at the competition in the alphabetical order from a letter which will be determined for every category by the following system: The number of the participants in one category will determine a letter from which the competition will start. Example: there are 27 participants in category A

1. Andric Nebojsa

2. Bojovic Rade

3. Vasiljevic Katarina

In this case, the letter "s" is the 27th letter in the Serbian script and competition will begin by an applicant whose surname, first by the order begins with the letter "s".

Article 7

The performances of the participants will be evaluated by the expert jury. The work of the jury is regulated by the special book of rules. All the decisions of jury are final and irrevocable.

Article 8

 

All the participants who win 60 to 69.99 points for their performance are awarded a written commendation and will receive a certificate. All the participants who win 70 to 79.99 points for their performance are awarded the third prize all will receive a certificate. All the participants who win 80 to 80.99 points for their performance are awarded the second prize all will receive a certificate All the participants who win 90 to 100 points for their performance are awarded the first prize and will receive a certificate. In each category, the absolute winner will be proclaimed and awarded a cup and certificate. All other participants will be awarded a certificate for their participation at the competition. All the schools, which apply their students, will also be awarded a certificate.

Article 9

Article 10

With the application form, all the applicants are obliged to send a photocopy of their birth certificate and the evidence of the subscription fee, which amounts:

10 € for the soloists

20 € for the chamber music groups

30 € for the orchestras

The subscription fee should be paid in Smederevo.

Article 11

All registred participants will be informed in writing until May 10th 2003 at the latest about the exact term and place of the competition.

Article 12

The organizers of the competition reserve all the rights to tone and video records of the competition and to use recorded materials according to their needs (for advertising in media, for making records, CD-a, cassettes etc.)

Article 13

Taking photographs of the participants, video recording of the competition and concerts is not allowed without the approval of the organizers.

Article 14

The applicants who enter the competition in any category are taking the responsibility of participation at the concerts, which are arranged by the organizers of the appearance at the competition. The disregard of this article will provoke the disqualification of a participant.

Article 15

By applying to the competition, all participants accept automatically the conditions in the previous articles of this book of rules.

The president of the expert Committee and art director The organizers of the manifestation "The Days of the Accordion" -Smederevo 2003 and Music Youth of Kragujevac will arrange the Federal Selective Competition for the choice of Yugoslav representative at the Word Trophy 2003. in junior and senior categories and junior and senior "variete" categories as well, within the manifestation "The Days of the Accordion". In junior category (valid for "variete" also) all participants born in 1985. and younger have the right to perform. In senior category (valid for "variete" also) all participants until the age of thirty have the right to perform. The application forms for the performances at the selective competition for the

World Trophy are submitted until April 10th 2003. to the address: Muzicka skola "Kosta Manojlovic", 11300 Smederevo, Milosa Velikog 8. All registred participants will be informed about the programme which is to be performed in 1st , 2nd and 3rd stages within three days, after getting the rules from

Word Trophy main office in Italy. It is expected that there will be no changes since the last year˘s rules. At the selective competition in Smederevo, the assigned composition will not be played. The chosen participants are obliged to learn the assigned composition by the time they go to the Word Trophy. The participant's˘ performances will be evaluated by the expert jury. They will choose to four Jugoslav representatives and to two reserves for the performance at the World Trophy. They will choose to two Yugoslav representatives for the "variete" category.

The chosen participants go to the World Trophy at their expenses and pay subscription fee (70 CHF) as well. The organizers bear costs of accomodation and food during the World Trophy. The organizers of the selective competition are ready to help all chosen participiants within the limits of their potentiality, in activities for providing necessary financial resources for going to the World Trophy.

All participants are obliged to pay subscription fee for the selective competition which amounts 10 € to giro account number 43200-603-7-79 with the indication for the manifestation "The days of the Accordion" - Smederevo 2003 and send the evidence of subscription fee and a photocopy of the birth certificate with their application form.

The rules for the competition of composers

The seventh international manifestation "The Days of the Accordion" - Smederevo 2003. is organizing the competition of composers from May 19th to 25th 2003. in the following categories:

Category A - A composition originally written for one accordion without the time limitations.

Category B - A chamber work written for instrumental or vocal-instrumental group without limitations of members, but at least one instrument must be the accordion.

The duration of the work is not restricted (the works written for duet, trio or quartet of the accordions are also considered).

Category C - A composition for the accordion orchestra or the accordion orchestra with combination with other instruments, or orchestric group or appears as a solo instrument. The duration of the work is not limited.

Notes: The composers whose registred compositions were not previously performed, published or presented to public in any other way, have the right to take part at the competition. The work should be written in legible handwriting with the respect of the orthographic rules or printed by suitable computer programme.

The way of application:

The composition is sent in three photocopies with a pseudonym. You write the pseudonym of the composer and the name of the work on a title page. You put the paper with legible written name and surname of the author; his address and telephone number in a little envelope with indicated pseudonym. The subscription fee is not expected. You should put copies of the composition and closed little envelope in a big envelope and send to the following address:

The expert jury of three members will decide on the applied compositions and their final decisions will be announced at the closing concert of the manifestation. The jury have the right to disqualify any composition, estimating that it does not correspond to the above quoted standards and professional composition-technical standards. Three first-placed compositions will be published by the organizers at their expense.

Respected friends,

The Eight International Manifestation "The Days of the Accordion" - Smederevo 2003. will be held from May 19th to 25th this year.

We hope to gather in large number and make nice friendships in Smederevo. According to that, we invite all the people who work with accordion (pupils, students, teachers, performers) and all others who like this instrument. We have also prepared a rich programme this year, just as the last year and we will send you the brochure in our next letter.

Besides the competition part we will also organize the programme part which will include the concerts of eminent solists on the accordian and the lectures by eminent pedagogues.

We invite you to send your opinions, advices, propositions which will be discussed with care and all the constructive and well-intentioned ones will be accepted. The address is given in the book of rules for the competition. So, we expect you in Smederevo as participants of the lovers of the accordion. In addition, we send you the book of rules for the competition, the rules for the competition of the composers, and an application form for the competition.
