Message from Matt (from the official site): Hey w-sup? My name's Matthew Roy Yoakum. I’m the new member of the awesome 5-member entourage of talented performers on the Townsend block. I feel extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work with these guys. We’ve all met someone who never stops talking. Well, I’m the guy who never stops singing. Throughout my childhood I was exposed to music. Growing up with my dad constantly playing guitar and singing as well as being a full time sound engineer, music definitely had a huge impact on me. I started singing when I was about five years old. I didn’t start to sing formally until I was a sophomore in high school. Like the other members of Townsend, I had many interest other than just music. I enjoyed sports. I was an all-state athlete. Even though I kept busy with school and other extra curricular activities, music was always a big part of my life. By my freshman year in college, I decided to make a bigger move towards a future in music by trying out for "Making of a Band". Prior to trying out for the band I did not seriously consider my career path to be by way of a boy band and I wasn’t properly prepared for the tryout. Nonetheless, I made it to the top 25. This gave me a huge insight into what the future could hold for me. I’ve spent the last year devoting most of my energies to develop the right skills to be a member of a band. After getting the call from Townsend in April of 2001, I realized that a real opportunity was being presented. I totally can’t wait till we get to perform for you. I think that by then you will realize what we have and what we can do. Thanks for checking out our web site. |
