Here's a few of the basics for learning to play the fiddle.
Step 1:
The first step is learning the strings. Here is a diagram of them to help you learn:
The lowest string is G, then is A, then D, then E.
Step 2:
The next step is to tune the fiddle. The best way to do this is to sit by a piano or some type of keyboard. Play the note on the keyboard and then pluck the string. Tune the strings the best you can by turning the pegs at the top of the fiddle. Once the note is close, use the fine tuners located towards the bottom of the fiddle if you have them. These come in very handy so if you don't have them, I would reccomend getting them!
Step 3:
Next, you need to learn how to handle the bow. It is held in the right hand, with the thumb under the horse hair, and the other fingers supportig it. Here is a diagram:
Once you've learned to hold it, you need to learn to rosin it. Rosin comes from a tree and makes the bow sticky so that the strings will vibrate and produce a sound. Take the rosin and run the hair of the bow up and down a few times. It may take more times the the first time.
