Call it supporting a New Hampshire native, but I have been a fan of Mandy Moore's since her first album So Real was released a couple of years ago. When I heard on XL 106.7 that she would be doing an autograph signing on Saturday, June 30, I rang my friend Lisa and forced her into coming with me.
We arrived at Downtown Disney around 1 p.m. and already the line rounded the outside corner of the store. I never fathomed that so many people would show up. Good for Mandy. Bad for me.
We went inside Virgin, where I bought a copy of Mandy's new self-titled album. The woman at the cash register said that Mandy's "people" told the powers-that-be she would only be available to sign from 3-5:30.
After a quick lunch at Planet Hollywood, which helped us avoid the usual Central Florida afternoon rainstorm, we headed upstairs to the second floor of Virgin. The line was winding throughout the store.
Luckily, Mandy was only 15 minutes late and she seemed so overwhelmed by the response. The line moved quickly and Lisa and I were to the front by 4:30. The two of us were shocked that they were still allowing photos. Mandy was such a gracious person to still be smiling after nearly an hour worth of fans.
She signed my copy of I Want to Be With You and took pictures with both Lisa and me. After two and half hours waiting, it took less than a minute. A bit anti-climatic if you ask me.
