The J-SKWD TRackLisT

May 18, 2003.

Hey! Remember me? Chances are, if you're visiting the site, it's most likely that you do... But I have been off-line for like, five weeks, so it's nice to be back. And I have a few things to vent about...

First off, Christina Aguilera, this goes out to you. I heard recently that you turned down the opportunity to duet with Robbie Williams. Why? Because your "styles are so different." Okay, that's fine. But then you continued talking and added the unnecessary, "He should ask Mariah Carey. She likes to duet a lot." The hell? In one quote, you just managed to offend two artists. First of all, you're implying that Williams is too pop for you. As well, you seem to believe that you are superior to Mariah Carey. On both counts, I say to you…whateverthef*ck. Get over yourself. You make decent music (did you see? You’re number 18 this week!), but you seem to have developed this feeling that you’re too hip for the rest of the crowd. Well, Ms. Stoned-Genie-In-A-Hair-Bleach-Bottle, you’re not. Remember “Dirrty”? Remember how big of a hit it was? Oh, yeah…it wasn’t. Nevermind. And while Robbie hasn’t had any real hits in the U.S. himself (Why? God only knows), his music has the sort of cleverness and subversive humor that makes him more than your average pop star. Apparently this goes over your head, like so many male artist’s belly buttons (don’t worry, you’ll get that eventually) ;). As for Mariah Carey, she may be cuckoo, but you’ll never come close to matching the success she once had. And even now, voyeuristic as she is in that video for that…duet…with Busta Rhymes, she exhibits the type of class you will never fully understand or appreciate. Yes, Christina, you have a right to free speech. Just remember, so do I.

A note to those who do read this: I know Christina never will.

Also, a note to country radio programmers: See? I can be mad at what someone says and still like their music! It is possible!

Another note to those who read this: I know country radio programmers never will.

Finally, what is up with America? Why are 50 Cent and American Idol non-stars occupying the top 10 of the Billboard 200 when far superior artists like Chantal Kreviazuk (my number one, by the way) and Ms. Dynamite can’t even break the top 100? (Chantal debuted at #116 and Ms. Dynamite reached #179). These people deserve to be superstars. Kreviazuk makes music so beautiful it hurts, while Ms. Dynamite has revitalized rap – particularly female rap – in a way that I could never describe. This depresses me. I’m stopping here. I…think I’m…going…to…cry…

A last note to those who read this: I’m not really that upset. I’ll be okay.
