* Home-made. Not available in stores…so don't go lookin' for it!
As I burned Nellie McKay's double-disc debut album down to one 60 minute disc (to save room in my 60-CD changer), I found myself getting into it all over again, and it goes on a major rebound, soaring 10-1.  Meanwhile, a relative indifference towards my other CD's causes very little movement elsewhere, with almost every disc dipping just one position the lone exceptions being Avril Lavigne, who holds steady at No. 8, and Speedway, who tumble 7-9).

Wh-why, who's that splashing onto the TrackList at No. 16?  Well, it's none other than…Fiona Apple, whose "Extraordinary Machine" easily takes this week's "Top Debut" honors.  This nifty little song is one of two (the other being "Better Version Of Me") to leak out onto the internet as her album, also titled Extraordinary Machine, sits in limbo over at Sony, whose promotional department just can't figure out what to do with it, so they're holding back the release.  Morons.  I hope Fiona goes all Aimee Mann on their asses and buys the disc back so she can sell it to a better label who in turn can sell it to a more-than-ready-for-her-return public.  Just because money-grubbing major label heads don't understand her brilliance doesn't mean we won't.

Of course, one week after mentioning the amazing consistency of JoJo's "Leave (Get Out), it takes its biggest fall yet, sliding from its peak of 29 to...right off the chart.  Hmmm.  Maybe if I take this opportunity to mention the consistent success of Adam Sandler movies, he'll do his own slide..right off the face of the Earth. ---Brandon "Jayson" Ulman
