And
Now A Word…from Brandon "Jayson" Ulman |
|
This week it's all about Holly
Valance. The
sexy U.K. artist debuts at No. 1 on the album chart with State Of Mind, while its title song
finally ascends to the pole position on the Track List, where second single
"Desire" enters at a smashing No. 14. State Of Mind is Valance's follow-up to 2001's lesser Footprints, and is an amazingly fun
disc, an '80s throwback that never sounds dated, driven by Valance's stirring
sexual confidence. A nice addition to
my collection. > In at
No. 2 on the album list is Nellie McKay, with Get Away From Me. She has the sad fate of
arriving the same week as Holly, and, great and innovative as it is, her
record must play second banana, at least for now. A spunky artist whose main musical
influences seem to be '50s-era jazz and modern hip-hop, McKay should likely
stick around the J-SKWD charts for a while. |

Quote of the week: "...mister bushie
says / I'm your president / I have lots to say / hey hey hey / and click goes
the remote / there you have my vote / catchin' the next boat out of
here..." -- Nellie McKay, from
"David," on Columbia Records release Get
Away From Me |
