...AND NOW A WORD FROM YOUR HOST:

Commentary on the The J-SKWD Top 40...

Even The West Wing's absence from NBC's schedule last week couldn't put a damper on the amazing run of W.G. Snuffy Walden, who now has the longest-running No. 1 single of the year with his "West Wing Suite & Main Title." His only real competition, at least as far as next week is concerned, is Destiny's Child's "Survivor" (No. 3), the only bulleted track among the Top 7. Will Snuffy be outwitted, outplayed and outlasted? Or will his run on top last as long as the nation's Survivor mania? Don't extinguish your torch of hope just yet, DC....In what seems to be a string of Top 10 debuts by a varied group of artists, Nikka Costa opens up at No. 10 with "Like A Feather," barely beating out Faith Hill's "There You'll Be" (No. 11) for the position. (Just breathe, Mrs. McGraw, you'll be in the Top 10 soon enough.)....Speaking of Tim's wife, Faith Hill's "There You'll Be" is her 10th Top 40 hit since her debut on the list in 1998 with the #4 smash "This Kiss."....After seeing Pearl Harbor the day it opened, it gave a boost to the already promising debuts of Hill's "There" and Hans Zimmer's score snippet "Tennessee" (No. 34). The movie was only so-so, but it was fine enough to make the soundtrack somewhat enjoyable upon multiple listens and fuel its first two chart-makers into the Top 40....The band PJ Harvey scores its first Top 10 hit this week with "You Said Something." This second single from Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea has already bested its predecessor, "Good Fortune," which topped out at #24 during the winter....Elsewhere, Nelly Furtado (No. 23) and Bon Jovi (No. 28) make some nice rebounds, while U2 (No. 37) and Destiny's Child (No. 39) add more hits to their already lengthy lists.
