CURIOUS FOOLS
Curious Fools
(Via Records, Gotee Records, Pila Music)
This is an album a close friend gave to me. The Christian group, 'Curious Fools' have been compared to U2 in sound, which is fortunate for me, as I enjoy the more spiritual aspect of Bono's lyrics. 'Curious Fools' vocalist Stephen Murray sounds remarkably like Bono, but Stephen's saving grace is his ability to put a whole lot more sincerity and depth into a song. This isn't to say Bono is insincere. No.Curious Fools is mostly songs of a religious nature, although you wouldn't really notice this straight away. 'Tie-Dye' is a poppy song about romance. 'What You Got' is song about greed ("a little or lot, there's always someone who wants what you have got"). 'Touch' is a real concert rocker. 'You Kill Me' is a song about emotional turmoil, and is full of heartfelt passion. 'The Only One' is about emotional estrangement. 'Balance' is a psychedelic instrumental. Guitarist/composer Troy Deaton adds an incredible amount of dimension to any song he composes, and at times uses Edge type phrazing. Keyboard player Dave Frank adds that perfect soundscape to compliment both Stephen's vocals and Troy's playing. I only know of four albums that Curious Fools have released (Read, Curious Fools, Love Is Believing, Electric Soul), and I have their second. Hopefully you can locate this album. Whether you are religious or not, and if you are a fan of U2, then you'll really enjoy this album.
