The Page
Past Questions
Also, this is a page about
Parliament-Funkadelic, so there could never be an official page since
Parliament-Funkadelic, in all actuality, ended in the early 80s. I hope to
give a voice to and represent all members of Parliament-Funkadelic,
past and present, through this website. Here you will find info about
*everybody*, from George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars, to Bootsy, to
the Brides, to all the guitarists, vocalists, keyboardists, horn players,
you name it. It's all One Nation. Quasi-official in every sense.
New development: One Nation was chosen along
with 3 other sites as an "official Mothership link" from George Clinton's
www.drfunkenstein.com (now defunct). With the
endorsement, we get to bear the official GC web logo which lets y'all know
that you're getting the real deal. Thanks for the honor!
But to all of you who have contributed in some way to the page,
you can't know how much I appreciate it! And to those who are tired of
what's on the page right now, you are encouraged to contribute
something new to the page, just be patient, or make your
own P-Funk page. :-)
The Band
I ended my webmistress duties around early 1999 and the page remains online to continue to assist P-Funk fans as well as to act as a memorial for the late Roger Troutman of Zapp. The page contains tons of great information that I think many people will continue to enjoy, even though it hasn't been updated lately and probably won't be updated anymore.
It is not an official page in that I am paid by anyone to do it, because
I'm not and don't wish to be. This page is a labor of love by the webmaster, editor, and the many funkateers
who contribute to it.
However, I do call it the "Quasi-Official" page because any info, tour
dates, contests, etc. that are publicized on this page are indeed
official--meaning they come from or have been authorized by the actual
artists, management, or representatives themselves.
There's already an excellent one at the Motherpage. You'll
find a discography, TV appearances, session work, album covers, all that
over there.
Right here on the One Nation P-Funk Page at the Take it to the Stage section.
No. The resources that are on the web are all that are available for funkateers right now. Also visit George Clinton's official site at www.georgeclinton.com.
The P-Funk Mailing
List is just a simple listserve-style mailing list for
fans to interactively discuss the best band in the land. The other list is
actually just a newsletter ("Nation Notes") which is sent out to detail
different things going on with the
webpage and late-breaking news. It functions as a sort of online fan club.
Anyone who joins the Uncle Jam's Army Online/One
Nation Funkateer Network
Database is automatically subscribed to recieve that newsletter. (Update: the Uncle Jam's Army Online and the "Nation Notes" letter are defunct.)
You can send your letters to George and the band in care of Gina Hall.
All publicity inquiries can be sent to the band's publicist Marcy
G. at marcygpfnk@aol.com. For
booking requests and info, if you write Gina Hall at
ginahall@atomicdawg.com, she
would be happy to forward your message to George's manager.
I'm just an avid fan and collector who felt it necessary to have a
quality P-Funk website that compared to other artist's fan sites. The
webspace is a gift from fellow New Orleans funkateer Dave Cash. He taught
me HTML and all kinds of computer-related things. I couldn't have done the
page without him, especially since I don't make any money from the site
(and don't want to). However, as you know, webspace isn't free. You can
help support this site by shopping on either the Cosmic Shop or Hollywood
Squares sections. Also, I don't work for the band, but sometimes I feel like I do.
I had been working hard (really) to get some official P-Funk
t-shirts up on the site to sell. It didn't work, and hopefully someone can
take over this task. In the meantime, official merchandise is sold at all
concerts for all P-Funk groups that are still touring.
We at this page have no control of any passes for anybody. However, based
on my experience, it seems that the passes are reserved for the band,
staff, press, family, and close friends, and sometimes, new friends.
Aaah, I love these kinds of letters. :-D Well, I never intended this to be
the Melissa (or whoever's in charge) feature page, but a page where all
funkateers could participate
and contribute. I haven't really gotten the overwhelming response of
people writing concert reviews and sending pictures that a page like this
needs. So until the participation gets stepped up a few notches, like, 100
percent, then what you see is what you're gonna get. Actually, I do always
update the page every single day, whether it's with tour dates or news or
to just make things easier for people to read.
Well, yes and no. While Bootsy is definitely a part of the large
Parliament-Funkadelic family (including artists like the Brides of
Funkenstein and Sweat Band), the last time he was an official member of
either Parliament or Funkadelic was in the early 70s. He toured with
Funkadelic around 1972 and recorded on that year's America Eats Its
Young, though he's made appearances on Parliament and Funkadelic
albums ever since. He has also toured with the P-Funk All-Stars for stints
in the 80s and 90s. However, Bootsy has his own thing called Bootsy's
Rubber Band (part of the P-Funk family). Whenever he made an appearance
with P-Funk from 1975 and on, it was with the Rubber Band.
George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars have been touring
incessantly since the late 1980s. They've had a number of major label
releases (and some minor label releases too), but none have done well
commercially. That's alright, though. P-Funk has been blessed to have some
of the most loyal fans anywhere, including new younger fans which learned
about P-Funk through rap music samples, the Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Lollapalooza, and the film "PCU" in which the band appeared. Also, P-Funk
inherited many of the Grateful Dead's fans upon the death of Jerry Garcia.
P-Funk has recently been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and has
finally had a book written about them.
If you did not see the return of the Mothership at various shows in 1996
and 1997, then you missed out. The Mothership prop has gone to that big
parking lot in the sky. Prior to that, fans could see the Mothership at
Parliament-Funkadelic live shows from roughly 1976-1979. The band brought
a smaller version of the Mothership out on the road again, beginning with
a special "Mothership Reconnection" show on July 4th, 1996 in New York
City's Central Park, before retiring it, probably for the last time.
Well, of course, George Clinton has been there since the
beginning. Next comes Garry Shider, Frankie Kash Waddy and Boogie Mosson who have
been around since the early 70s. And Mike Hampton has been around since
1974. Clip, Lige Curry, Blackbyrd, Greg Thomas, and Bennie Cowan
have been in the band since the late 70s. So there are quite a few "original" members left.
