There is some confusion about which Mary Barstow married William Ingraham and which married Joseph Silvester. The sources claiming there is only one Mary Barstow who married both Ingraham and Silvester are almost certainly wrong, based on the inscription of the tombstone in Wequetequock cemetery in Stonington, Connecticut: "Mary Bairstow Ingraham died Nov. 16, 1708 ae. 70 yrs." One clue is the unlikely situation that if the wife of William Ingraham was born in 1641, she would be only 14 years old when she married him (not impossible, but somewhat unlikely) and would be 66 years old in NOV 1708 (again, the 3- or 4-year age discrepancy would not be impossible as a mistake of the time, although her husband died after she did in 1721 and would have certainly had an accurate knowledge of her age for the tombstone). Some sources claim the Ingraham/Barstow marriage took place in Boston, 14 MAY 1656, while others claim it took place (on the same date) in Stonington. Meanwhile, William Barstow had a brother in Scituate named George who married Susannah Merritt, with record of two nameless children by them born in the 1630s. Perhaps the two Mary Barstows were first cousins.
